Within the collective coordinate approach to chiral soliton models we suggest that breaking of SU(3) flavor symmetry mainly resides in the baryon wave-functions while the charge operators maintain a symmetric structure.

Spatial interference from well-separated condensates [PDF]
We use magnetic levitation and a variable-separation dual optical plug to obtain clear spatial interference between two condensates axially separated by up to 0.25 mm -- the largest separation observed with this kind of interferometer.

CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Effect of rotor-to-stator spacing on acoustic performance of a full-scale fan (QF-5) for turbofan engines [PDF]
A study was made of the effect of increasing the fan rotor-to-stator spacing on the noise level of a full-scale, single-stage, 1.6-pressure-ratio fan. Noise data were obtained with axial spacing of 1.14, 1.65, and 2.27 rotor chord lengths.

The role of non-uniqueness in the development of vortex breakdown in tubes [PDF]
Numerical solutions of viscous, swirling flows through circular pipes of constant radius and circular pipes with throats have been obtained. Solutions were computed for several values of vortex circulation, Reynolds number and throat/inlet area ratio ...

Axial fan noise with modulated stator blade spacing [PDF]
This paper describes the investigations carried out to examine whether unevenly spaced stator blades can be advantageously used to reduce the blade passing frequency tone generated by rotor wake interaction with the stators. Experiments were carried out on a single stage axial fan of 305-mm diameter with 18 rotor blades followed by 19 stator blades at ...

dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Hydraulic permeability increase technology is currently one of the key techniques for gas prevention and control. However, existing methods still suffer from issues such as discontinuous decompression zones and complex construction processes.

Design and testing of a contra-rotating tidal current turbine [PDF]
A contra-rotating marine current turbine has a number of attractive features: nearzero reactive torque on the support structure, near-zero swirl in the wake, and high relative inter-rotor rotational speeds.

Axial anomalies and index theorems on open spaces [PDF]
Using an approach inspired by the theory of the anomalous divergence of the axial vector current, we derive trace formulas for the resolvents of Dirac operators on open spaces of odd dimension. These formulas readily yield index theorems for these operators.
