AXIORYGMA NETHERTONI, A NEW GENUS AND SPECIES OF THALASSINIDEAN SHRIMP FROM FLORIDA (DECAPODA: AXIIDAE)

ABSTRACT Axiorygmanethertoni is described from material collected in about 30 m of water off the Key Largo area of the Florida Keys, and from 52-58 m in the Gulf of Mexico off the west coast of Florida. The genus is characterized by the possession of sexually dimorphic chelipeds, and by the absence of an appendix masculina in the male.

Axius serratus Stimpson, 1852, is redescribed and illustrated, and its distribution based on 54 records of 68 specimens is recorded. The sympatric, and rarely recorded Axius armatus Smith, 1881, is redescribed and illustrated for the first time, based on six female specimens from five separate records.

Additional Records of Acanthaxius Caespitosus (Squires, 1979) (Decapoda, Thalassinoidea, Axiidae) from the Eastern Tropical Pacific

The mud lobsters of the family Axiidae are represented in the eastern tropical Pacific by seven species. Only one of these species belongs to the genus Acan thaxius Sakai & De Saint Laurent, 1989 (cf. Hendrickx, 1995a), although a second species, A. spinulicauda (Rathbun, 1902) is known from British Columbia and Cal ifornia.
