Effects of nitrate to ammonium ratio and nitrogen level on growth of an invasive plant Alternanthera philoxeroides in cadmium polluted water

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, EarlyView.
Our findings suggest that nitrogen level and the ratio of nitrate to ammonium have an interaction effect on the overall growth of Alternanthera philoxeroides in Cd polluted water. We argue that when considering the growth of this invasive species in Cd polluted water, it is equally important to consider both the effects of nitrate to ammonium ratio and

Bulbil formation in stress: Crucial role of triploid fitness in mixed ploidy dynamics in Costus speciosus

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, EarlyView.
Upon prolonged waterlogging, a Costus speciosus plant developed bulbils at stem node. Karyotype analysis, nucleolar staining, and anatomical study revealed its triploid status and developmental aspects. Prevalence of tetraploid, abundance, and unique reproductive fecundity of the triploid, indicates its determinant role in coexistence of the multiple ...
