Effect of risk and incentives on contracts: The case of farm operators in Iowa

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract Longitudinal data on Iowa landowner–operator contracts are used to examine how the mean, variance, and skewness of expected farmland returns affected contract terms from 2008 to 2019. To control for unobserved operator risk preferences and ability as a fixed effect, the sample includes operators with multiple contracts.

Ordering infinite utility streams comes at the cost of a non-Ramsey set. [PDF]

open access: yes
The existence of a Paretian and finitely anonymous ordering in the set of infnite utility streams implies the existence of a non-Ramsey set (a nonconstructive object whose existence requires the axiom of choice).

The axiom of choice for finite sets [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1960
If 3f is a family of nonempty sets, then by a choice function on 3f we mean a function f on 3f such that f(S) ES for every S Ez3. The axiom of choice for finite sets may be formulated as follows: (ACF) If 3f is any family of nonempty finite sets, then there exists a choice function on 3F.

Semantic primitives and compositionality: An Annual Review of Information Science and Technology (ARIST) paper

open access: yesJournal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract The term semantic primitives refers to a set of basic, atomic concepts from which all other (compound) concepts are constructed. It presupposes the principle of compositionality—the idea that complex items or expressions can be formed by combining simpler constituents.

The Essence of Intuitive Set Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Intuitive Set Theory (IST) is defined as the theory we get, when we add Axiom of Monotonicity and Axiom of Fusion to Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory. In IST, Continuum Hypothesis is a theorem, Axiom of Choice is a theorem, Skolem paradox does not appear ...

Set mapping reflection

open access: yes, 2005
In this note we will discuss a new reflection principle which follows from the Proper Forcing Axiom. The immediate purpose will be to prove that the bounded form of the Proper Forcing Axiom implies both that 2^omega = omega_2 and that L(P(omega_1 ...

Learning to explain environmental crises: A dialogic analysis of teacher professional learning between Chile and the United States

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Many studies and initiatives are animated by the potential for science education to intervene in the climate crisis and crises of environmental degradation and disinformation. For science teachers to learn to address these issues in their classes, their teaching must expand beyond scientific facts and face controversial social aspects. Dealing

Aksjomat multiplikatywny Russela

open access: yesZagadnienia Filozoficzne w Nauce, 2012
We present the history of two parallel (and equivalent) discoveries: the axiom of choice and the multiplicative axiom. Firstly, we consider the origins of the formulation of the multiplicative axiom. Next, we concentrate on Russell’s attitude towards the
