Injectivity, Projectivity, and the Axiom of Choice [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1979
We study the connection between the axiom of choice and the principles of existence of enough projective and injective abelian groups. We also introduce a weak choice principle that says, roughly, that the axiom of choice is violated in only a set of different ways.

Integrating Aegean Last Interglacial faunas into the Mediterranean palaeobiogeographic framework: New evidence from Karpathos (Greece)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Last Interglacial (LIG) or Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5e, spanning 129 to 116 kyrs ago, is recognised as one of the warmest periods in the Quaternary, with global sea surface temperatures (SSTs) 1°C–2°C higher than today, sea levels 5–10 m above the current level and biogeographical range expansion of specific tropical species into the ...

The Review of Relations of Principles of Strong Uniformization and Church Thesis in Intuitionistic Set Theory

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Philosophy, 2013
We prove that the strong uniformization does not depend on Church thesis with choice in the set theory with intuitionistic logic and with axiom of extensionality.

Multi-Profile Intergenerational Social Choice [PDF]

open access: yes
Ferejohn and Page transplanted a stationarity axiom from Koopmans' theory of impatience into Arrow's social choice theory with an infinite horizon and showed that the Arrow axioms and stationarity lead to a dictatorship by the first generation.

Bounded Sustainable Entrepreneurship: Uncertainty, Perceptions, and Tensions

open access: yesStrategic Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Entrepreneurs experience subjective perceptions of uncertainty and other barriers as they attempt to design their business model. These create boundaries of a cognitive nature that entrepreneurs must navigate. It has been suggested that sustainable entrepreneurship is inherently even more uncertain and complex than traditional entrepreneurship.

This interest is particularly relevant for entrepreneurs, who frequently face high levels of uncertainty and lack the organizational support ...

The rational choice or “economic” approach to politics—public choice analysis—brought the self-interest axiom into the analysis of the political sector as part of a move to provide a model of political behavior useful for economic policy analysis and ...

Free will, robots, and the axiom of choice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
There are quite a number of similarities between the moral concept of choice and the mathematical axiom of choice. These similarities shed light on how to adapt law to solve cases that arise with the increasing “autonomy” of ...

A Relational View of Uncertainty

open access: yesStrategic Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT There is significant confusion and debate in entrepreneurship and strategy research about the nature and locus of uncertainty. Does uncertainty reside internally in the agent or externally in the environment? This article introduces a relational view of uncertainty (RVU) to help reframe this issue.
