We study the non-equilibrium dynamics of a pseudoscalar axion-like particle (ALP) weakly coupled to degrees of freedom in thermal equilibrium by obtaining its reduced density matrix. Its time evolution is determined by the in-in effective action which we obtain to leading order in the (ALP) coupling but to \emph{all orders} in the couplings of the bath

Axions and axion-like particles [PDF]
I review the theoretical motivation for the axion and present an update of the experimental status of axion searches. I finally comment on some aspects of the physics of axion-like particles.

Spontaneous baryogenesis from axions with generic couplings
Axion-like particles can source the baryon asymmetry of our Universe through spontaneous baryogenesis. Here we clarify that this is a generic outcome for essentially any coupling of an axion-like particle to the Standard Model, requiring only a non-zero ...

The Effective Field Theory (EFT) Lagrangian for a generic axion-like particle (ALP) has many free parameters, and leaves quite some freedom for the expected phenomenology.

Portal Connecting Dark Photons and Axions [PDF]
The dark photon and the axion (or axion-like particle) are popular light particles of the hidden sector. Each of them has been actively searched for through the couplings called the vector portal and the axion portal. We introduce a new portal connecting

A new bound on axion-like particles [PDF]
Axion-like particles (ALPs) and photons can quantum mechanically interconvert when propagating through magnetic fields, and ALP-photon conversion may induce oscillatory features in the spectra of astrophysical sources. We use deep (370 ks), short frame time Chandra observations of the bright nucleus at the centre of the radio galaxy M87 in the Virgo ...

Axion-like particle assisted strongly interacting massive particle [PDF]
We propose a new realization of strongly interacting massive particles (SIMP) as self-interacting dark matter, where SIMPs couple to the Standard Model sector through an axion-like particle.

Constraining axion dark matter with Big Bang Nucleosynthesis
We show that Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) significantly constrains axion-like dark matter. The axion acts like an oscillating QCD θ angle that redshifts in the early Universe, increasing the neutron–proton mass difference at neutron freeze-out.

Search for an interaction mediated by axion-like particles with ultracold neutrons at the PSI
We report on a search for a new, short-range, spin-dependent interaction using a modified version of the experimental apparatus used to measure the permanent neutron electric dipole moment at the Paul Scherrer Institute.
