Sonic and Subsonic Axisymmetric Nozzle Flows

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1999
Summary: The boundary value problems governing compressible, steady, inviscid, axisymmetric flow from a nozzle are formulated and solved numerically. The Legendre, or contact, potential formulation is used in the hodograph plane to determine flows that are at most sonic.

Mach Disk from Underexpanded Axisymmetric Nozzle Flow

AIAA Journal, 1974
The flowfield associated with the underexpanded axisymmetric nozzle freejet flow including the appearance of a Mach disk has been studied. It is shown that the location and size of the Mach disk are governed by the appearance of a triple-point shock configuration and the condition that the central core flow will reach a state of 'choking at a throat'.

Elastic-Shakedown Analysis of Axisymmetric Nozzles

Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 2003
An investigation of the shakedown behavior of axisymmetric nozzles under internal pressure is presented. The analysis is based on elastic-plastic finite element analysis and Melan’s lower bound shakedown theorem. Calculated shakedown pressures are compared with values from the literature and with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII ...

Advanced Mach 3.5 Axisymmetric Quiet Nozzle

21st Fluid Dynamics, Plasma Dynamics and Lasers Conference, 1990
To advance boundary-layer stability and transition research and to ultimately provide reliable predictions of transition for supersonic flight vehicles, a wind tunnel is required with very low stream disturbance levels comparable to free flight conditions.

Transonic swirling flow in axisymmetric nozzles

Meccanica, 1976
The transonic flow in axisymmetric choked nozzles is computed in the case of a radial distribution of tangential velocity. The flow configuration is obtained by means of a time-dependent technique. The swirling flow is achieved through a particular surface located at the inlet of the nozzle.

An axisymmetric ‘fluidic’ nozzle to generate jet precession

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1998
A continuously unstable precessing flow within a short cylindrical chamber following a large sudden expansion is described. The investigation relates to a nozzle designed to produce a jet which achieves large-scale mixing in the downstream field.

Axisymmetric nozzles with chamfered contraction

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2017
Abstract Paper discusses experimental results obtained in measurements of essentially incompressible flows in axially symmetric nozzles with inlet entrance shaped as a 45° half-angle chamfering. Interest was concentrated on small, low Reynolds number conditions. Six differently behaving flow regimes, from A to F, were identified. Surprisingly, in the
