Imperfect axisymmetry in the Tokamak Configuration

Nuclear Fusion, 1972
In real experimental tokamaks the necessity for access space between toroidal field coils spoils the ideal axisymmetry of the configuration. The "ripple" in toroidal field strength (typically a few percent) causes non-symmetric trapping of particles; the resultant drift orbits generally lead to the wall.

The Milky Way disk non‐axisymmetries and galactoseismology

Astronomische Nachrichten, 2016
AbstractCurrent Galactic dynamical models still most often rely on the assumptions of a smooth time‐independent and axisymmetric gravitational potential. On the other hand, ab initio simulations in a cosmological context are not very flexible to precisely produce a model of our own Galaxy, or to disentangle the internal and the external/environmental ...

On the Local Axisymmetry of a Vortex

2021
The local 3D cylindrical axisymmetry of a vortex is examined. Simple scalar quantities with a clear geometrical interpretation are introduced as suitable analytical tools for visualization of the local axisymmetry and skewness of the flow in the domain characterized by complex eigenvalues of the velocity-gradient tensor.
