Grass functional traits reflect the long history of fire and grazers in the savannas of Texas [PDF]
Abstract Premise Understanding relationships among grass traits, fire, and herbivores may help improve conservation strategies for savannas that are threatened by novel disturbance regimes. Emerging theory, developed in Africa, emphasizes that functional traits of savanna grasses reflect the distinct ways that fire and grazers consume biomass ...

Axonopus compressus (Sw.) Beauv.: A potential biomonitor for molybdenum in soil pollution
Phytoremediation is an emerging technology that utilizes plants to remediate contaminated environments. In this study, Axonopus compressus (Sw.) Beauv, a fast-growing and hardy groundcover with wide geographical distribution, was exposed to soil Mo treatments ranging from 100 to 1000 mg/kg under tropical greenhouse conditions for five weeks. Generally,

Soil-roots Strength Performance of Extensive Green Roof by Using Axonopus Compressus
Green roof technology has been proven to provide potential environmental benefits including improved building thermal performance, removal of air pollution and reduced storm water runoff. Installation of green roof also involved soil element usage as a plant growth medium which creates several interactions between both strands.

Vehicular traffic on turf results in loss of green cover due to direct tearing of shoots and indirect long-term soil compaction. Protection of turfgrass crowns from wear could increase the ability of turf to recover from heavy traffic. Plastic turfpavers have been installed in trafficked areas to reduce soil compaction and to protect turfgrass crowns ...

Shade affects turf quality by reducing light for photosynthesis. The shade tolerance of the tropical grasses, Digitaria longiflora and Axonopus compressus were evaluated against Stenotaphrum secundatum (St. Augustinegrass). The grasses were established under shade structures that provide 0%, 50%, 75% or 90% shade level for 30 days.
