Electron Bean Weldability of Pure Magnesium and AZ31 Magnesium Alloy

open access: yesMATERIALS TRANSACTIONS, 2000
Pure magnesium and AZ31 magnesium alloy plates 4 mm in thickness were butt welded without addition of filler wire using a high voltage electron beam welding machine. Mechanical properties and microstructures of the welded joints were investigated. Regardless of the materials, the welded joints were almost free from welding defects and showed good bead ...

Friction welding of magnesium alloy AZ31.

open access: yesJournal of Japan Institute of Light Metals, 1991
Magnesium alloy AZ31 was friction welded using a brake type friction welding machine under argon shielding. Microstructures and mechanical properties of the friction welded joints were investigated. The fine grain structure resulting from disappearance of fibrous one is observed closely near the weld interface.
