Serrated flow in magnesium alloy AZ91 [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Science & Engineering A: Structural Materials: Properties, Microstructure and Processing, 2004
Serrated flow has recently been observed in the ternary Mg-9 wt.% Al-1 wt.% Zn alloy AZ91 at room temperature. Binary and ternary alloys with various contents of Zn and Al have, therefore, been tested to determine the extent to which the individual solutes, Al or Zn, are responsible for the serrations.

Fracture behavior of AZ91 magnesium alloy

Materials Letters, 2000
Abstract Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to examine the fracture behavior of AZ91 magnesium alloy ruptured by tensile and impact tests. AZ91 alloy generally revealed features of brittle fracture and cleavage is the principal fracture mode.

Corrosion of Mg alloy AZ91 – the role of microstructure [PDF]

open access: yesCorrosion Engineering, Science and Technology, 2004
AbstractThe paper presents new findings concerning the role of microstructural variations in the localised corrosion of a magnesium alloy AZ91. The alloy with prior solution treatment (T4 condition), when subjected to aging treatments (T6 condition), developed intermetallic β phase (Mg17 Al12), which is cathodic to the alloy matrix, i.e.
