Abstract The effects of 2 wt.% rare earth element addition on the microstructure evolution, thermal stability and shear strength of AZ91 alloy were investigated in the as-cast and annealed conditions. The as-cast structure of AZ91 consists of α-Mg matrix and the β-Mg17Al12 intermetallic phase.

Crystallography of directionally solidified magnesium alloy AZ91
Metallurgical Transactions A, 1989The crystallographic direction of growth in directionally solidified magnesium alloy AZ91 has been studied by TEM and EBSP techniques in SEM. The main direction of growth is found to be $$\left\langle {11\bar 20} \right\rangle $$ .

Two-Step Anodization of AZ91 Magnesium Alloy
Materials Science Forum, 2005Among four AZ91 samples, two were once anodized and the others were twice anodized in two electrolytic baths. After twice anodization, two coatings coexist on the base metal. Surface morphology showed that for one of twice anodic coatings (sample 2), the second coating only existed on some places and sealed some pores of the first coating after short ...

Surface alloying of AZ91E alloy by Al–Zn packed powder diffusion coating
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2011A new surface coating technique, namely packed powder diffusion coating (PPDC), for AZ91E magnesium alloy is reported. This new technique uses a powder mixture of aluminium and zinc as diffusion source and produces uniform and thick coatings at temperatures below 420 degrees C.

Study on the Filtering Purification of AZ91 Magnesium Alloy
Materials Science Forum, 2009High quality magnesium casting depends significantly on the purification of its alloy melt. However, it is very difficult to obtain high-quality magnesium alloy melt due to its high reactivity and its tendency of combustion. The fluxing processing, a traditional purification method for magnesium melt, not only bears the risk of flux inclusions but also

Surface treatment of cast AZ91 alloy
2009Cast AZ91 is the most typical magnesium alloy due to its superior combination of castability, mechanical strength and ductility. However, it also suffers from poor wear and corrosion resistance, which limits its wider industrial applications. Surface treatment has been recognised as a major emerging technology that can solve this problem without ...

Wettability of Mg and AZ91 Alloy on Ti6Al4V Alloy Substrate
The wettability of liquid Mg and AZ91 alloy on bulk Ti6Al4V alloy was investigated in the current study. Wetting experiments were conducted by gradually heating the samples to 800°C for 30 minutes. A CCD camera was used to capture the morphological changes in the droplet during contact angle measurements.Bütev Öcal, Ezgi +1 more

Creep behaviour of Deep Cryogenic Treated AZ91 Magnesium alloy
2012The Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT) is known to havebeneficial effects on mechanical behavior/properties ofsome alloys. It was also reported to be beneficial for thecreep strength of Mg alloys. The present study is aimedat checking the effect of DCT on the high temperaturebehaviour of the Mg alloy AZ91 by means of comparativecreep tests at 100 and 200°C
