This review highlights recent advancements in Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) techniques tailored for tubular samples. The mechanisms of processing are critically discussed with emphasis on microstructural control and the governing process parameters that enable refinement to ultrafine‐ and nano‐grained structures. Comparative insights into equivalent

Effect of carrier gases on the entrainment defects within AZ91 alloy castings
An entrainment defect (also known as a double oxide film defect or bifilm) acts a void containing an entrapped gas when submerged into a light-alloy melt, thus reducing the quality and reproducibility of the final castings. Previous publications, carried

Hot workability of nanocrystalline AZ91 magnesium alloy [PDF]
This study examined the hot deformation behavior and workability characteristics of nanocrystalline AZ91 Mg alloy by performing hot compression tests with a Gleeble-3800 machine. To this end, a nanocrystalline alloy powder with a crystallite size of 25 nm was synthesized via mechanical milling of a pre-alloyed AZ91 Mg alloy powder for 14 h.

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.
