Valorization of Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) peel for peroxidase production and its immobilization on alginate beads for 2,4‐dichlorophenol bioconversion

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 8, Page 3984-3995, August 2026.
Sodium alginate was modified with EDC/NHS for the immobilization of Yacon peel peroxidase, resulting in a novel biocatalyst for the oxidation of 2,4‐dichlorophenol. Abstract Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) roots are emerging as an alternative source of peroxidase. This study aimed to extract, immobilize, and characterize the peroxidase from Yacon peel,

Land‐Use Shapes Soil Fungal Communities and Functional Guilds in Tropical Forest Ecosystems

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 7, Issue 4, August 2026.
Land‐use change is a major cause of biodiversity loss and soil degradation in tropical regions. The role of soil fungi, including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), though critical, is often overlooked. AMF communities across cropland, disturbed forest, and undisturbed forest vegetation in southwestern Nigeria were relatively resilient to land‐use ...

Transformative Pathways for Strengthening Climate‐Resilient Health Systems Among Indigenous Communities: Advancing Equity and Sustainability in Global Health

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 34, Issue 4, Page 5382-5396, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Most climate‐resilience health interventions are designed at the global level, with minimal attention to Indigenous communities' needs. The lack of consideration can lead to unintended harm and exacerbate health risks. This study aims to identify the capacities of Indigenous communities that can serve as transformative pathways in safely ...
