Hypersensitivity Reaction to Azathioprine

Southern Medical Journal, 1998
Adverse drug reactions can vary from a simple rash to anaphylactic shock. While certain medications including the penicillins are well known to cause such reactions, other drugs are not as commonly recognized. Azathioprine hypersensitivity reactions tend to be benign and self-limiting with cessation of drug ingestion.

Azathioprine and Pemphigus Vulgaris

Archives of Dermatology, 1973
To the Editor.— We were pleased that in their article published in theArchives, Drs. Roenigk and Deodhar have confirmed that azathioprine gives good results in the treatment of pemphigus (107:353, 1973). The three patients we reported ( Br Med J 3:84, 1970) as having an excellent response to azathioprine have since remained under good control.

Azathioprine

Anesthesiology, 1976
The neuromuscular effects of azathioprine were examined in the in-vivo cat soleus muscle preparation. In concentrations ranging from 10 to 1,000 mug/kg, administered intra-arterially, the agent caused motor axons to fire repetitively and produced a dose-related increase in the force of contraction. The drug reversed neuromuscular blockage produced by d-
