miRNAs are involved in different biological processes, including proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Interestingly, 38% of the X chromosome-linked miRNAs are testis-specific and have crucial roles in regulating the renewal and cell cycle of ...

Azoospermia is defined as the complete absence of sperm in the ejaculate even after centrifugation. With a prevalence of 1 % among the general male population and 10-15 % among infertile men, it can be classified in two large groups: Obstructive and non-obstructive azoospermia (OA and NOA).

Secondary azoospermia after vasovasostomy
Fertility and Sterility, 2004To determine the frequency of secondary azoospermia after microsurgical vasovasostomy and to determine what factors increase the risk of its occurrence. We performed a retrospective review of three surgeons' experience. Patency was defined as the presence of sperm in at least one postoperative semen sample.

Imaging of obstructive azoospermia
European Radiology, 1997Obstructive azoospermia represents approximately 10 % of cases of male hypofertility. It is classified according to the volume of ejaculate. When the latter is normal a proximal obstruction is suspected. Scrotal sonography can help to detect dilation of the epididymal head when clinical findings are equivocal.

Oligo/azoospermia contributes significantly to infertility in male Nigerians, being responsible for most of the problem. By definition, it would appear that the criteria for the diagnosis of this problem in Nigerians should be sperm density below 10 million/ml, total sperm ejaculate below 25 million, motility below 40%, and normal forms below 40% in ...
