Optical storage properties in cast films of an azopolymer
In this paper we discuss the properties of optically induced birefringence in DR19-MDI cast films that may be used in optical storage applications. The selection of DR19-MDI cast films was based on a comparative study of optical storage properties of ...

Modeling Light‐Induced Synaptic Behavior and Visual Memory of Azopolymeric Compounds
In the framework of neuromorphic hardware it is essential to predict the evolution of the internal state of the devices mimicking synaptic functionalities to perform in‐silico modeling of specific computational tasks. Here, we provide a rate‐balance equation model to describe the synaptic‐like response of light‐actuated azopolymeric compounds and ...

Cyclo‐Octasulfur Crystals as Light‐Controlled Molecular Muscles
Bending and stretching effect provoked by the repeated application of 385‐nm radiation (purple) and 475‐nm radiation (blue) on sulfur microcrystals. Abstract Here, we describe the synthesis and photo‐responsive properties of 2D cyclo‐octasulfur microcrystals (α‐S8 MCs), produced using a quick, simple, cost‐effective, and environmentally friendly ...

Pixelated Laser with Tailored Emission Spectrum Photopatterned by Digital Holographic Microscopy
Azobenzene‐based surface‐relief gratings inscribed via DHM‐integrated holographic lithography enable programmable pixelated DFB laser architectures. This approach allows independent control of grating parameters across a 2D array, enabling spatially tailored emission spectra.

Electro– and photosensitive azopolymer for alignment of liquid crystals
We report an electro- and photosensitive metal containing polymer material for alignment of liquid crystals (LCs). Irradiation with polarized light and/or application of dc-field result in an anisotropy of the polymer and formation of an easy orientation axes of a LC on the polymer surface.

A new method for patterning azopolymer thin film surfaces [PDF]
We present a simple bottom-up approach via an incoherent unpolarized illumination and the choice of a solvent-droplet-induced-dewetting method to photoinducenano doughnuts on the surface of azopolymer thin films. We demonstrate that doughnut-shaped nanostructures can be formed and tailored with a wide range of typical sizes, thus providing a rich field

Quasi‐Single‐Mode Polaritonic Crystal for Hyperbolic Phonon‐Polaritons
Near‐field study of the polaritonic Fourier crystal with α‐MoO3 reveals that the hyperbolic phonon‐polaritons within the Type‐I Reststrahlen band may form a quasi‐single‐mode Bloch wave where only the fundamental mode propagates in the crystal. Our results demonstrate the realization of a quasi‐single‐mode regime for the inherently multimode hyperbolic

Simple turbulence measurements with azopolymer thin films
A simple method to measure the influence on the laser beam propagation by a turbid medium is proposed. This measurement is based on the inscription of a surface relief grating (SRG) on an azopolymer thin film. The grating obtained with a single laser beam after propagation into a turbulent medium is perturbed and directly analyzed by a CCD camera ...

Biomimetic Adhesion/Detachment Using Layered Polymers with Light‐Induced Rapid Shape Changes
Geckos achieve rapid adhesion and detachment through their hierarchically structured toe pads. Inspired by this, we developed a crosslinked polymer film with a nanoscale layered structure that undergoes high‐speed, reversible expansion, and contraction under UV light.

In this work, we study the polarization properties of diffraction gratings recorded in thin films of the azopolymer PAZO (poly[1-[4-(3-carboxy-4-hydroxyphenylazo)benzene sulfonamido]-1,2-ethanediyl, sodium salt]) using digital polarization holography ...
