Cyclo-Octasulfur Crystals as Light-Controlled Molecular Muscles. [PDF]
Bending and stretching effect provoked by the repeated application of 385‐nm radiation (purple) and 475‐nm radiation (blue) on sulfur microcrystals. Abstract Here, we describe the synthesis and photo‐responsive properties of 2D cyclo‐octasulfur microcrystals (α‐S8 MCs), produced using a quick, simple, cost‐effective, and environmentally friendly ...

ON BIAXIALITY OF PHOTOINDUCED STRUCTURES IN AZOPOLYMER FILMS [PDF]
Spatial orientational structures in the layers of liquid crystalline polymalonates are investigated using UV absorption method and the results of the null ellipsometry technique. Preferential in-plane alignment of azobenzene fragments and in-plane reorientation under irradiation with polarized UV light are established.

A short review of the photomechanical effect in azo-containing amorphous (glassy) polymers
The photomechanical effect has been studied so far mainly in elastomers, but recently more and more publications, in which this effect is studied for other materials too, so-called glassy or amorphous polymers (in particular polyimides), have appeared ...

Biomimetic Adhesion/Detachment Using Layered Polymers with Light-Induced Rapid Shape Changes. [PDF]
Geckos achieve rapid adhesion and detachment through their hierarchically structured toe pads. Inspired by this, we developed a crosslinked polymer film with a nanoscale layered structure that undergoes high‐speed, reversible expansion, and contraction under UV light.

Optical storage properties in cast films of an azopolymer
In this paper we discuss the properties of optically induced birefringence in DR19-MDI cast films that may be used in optical storage applications. The selection of DR19-MDI cast films was based on a comparative study of optical storage properties of ...

From nanoscopic to macroscopic photo-driven motion in azobenzene-containing materials
The illumination of azobenzene molecules with UV/visible light efficiently converts the molecules between trans and cis isomerization states. Isomerization is accompanied by a large photo-induced molecular motion, which is able to significantly affect ...

Modeling Light‐Induced Synaptic Behavior and Visual Memory of Azopolymeric Compounds
In the framework of neuromorphic hardware it is essential to predict the evolution of the internal state of the devices mimicking synaptic functionalities to perform in‐silico modeling of specific computational tasks. Here, we provide a rate‐balance equation model to describe the synaptic‐like response of light‐actuated azopolymeric compounds and ...

Electro– and photosensitive azopolymer for alignment of liquid crystals
We report an electro- and photosensitive metal containing polymer material for alignment of liquid crystals (LCs). Irradiation with polarized light and/or application of dc-field result in an anisotropy of the polymer and formation of an easy orientation axes of a LC on the polymer surface.

Pixelated Laser with Tailored Emission Spectrum Photopatterned by Digital Holographic Microscopy
Azobenzene‐based surface‐relief gratings inscribed via DHM‐integrated holographic lithography enable programmable pixelated DFB laser architectures. This approach allows independent control of grating parameters across a 2D array, enabling spatially tailored emission spectra.
