Regional Representation in the European Parliament: Parliamentary Questions on Geographical Indications

open access: yesEconomics &Politics, Volume 37, Issue 2, Page 724-734, July 2025.
ABSTRACT The European Parliament represents the citizens of the European Union. However, individual Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) also face incentives to represent more narrow regional economic interests. Geographical Indications (GIs) such as Asiago or Champagne are an ideal policy area to study regional representation.

Investigation of Isobaric Mixing as a Mechanism for Boundary‐Layer Cloud Formation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 11, 16 June 2025.
Abstract This study investigates the potential role of isobaric mixing in the formation of marine boundary layer clouds. Cloud formation theory emphasizes uplift and adiabatic cooling, but recent observations support the existence of small clouds forming at various altitudes, even below the lifting condensation level.

First record of the Mediterranean asteroid Sclerasterias richardi (Perrier in Milne-Edwards 1882) in the Azores Archipelago (NE Atlantic Ocean) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The first occurrence of the Mediterranean fissiparous asteroid Sclerasterias richardi (Perrier in Milne-Edwards 1882) is reported from the Azores based upon dredged material off the south coast of São Miguel Island at 135 m depth.

Overview of the Ocean Climatology and Its Variability in the Azores Region of the North Atlantic Including Environmental Characteristics at the Seabed

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2017
Obtaining a comprehensive knowledge of the spatial and temporal variations of the environmental factors characterising the Azores region is essential for conservation and management purposes. Although many studies are available for the region, there is a

Intensified Interannual Variability of Arctic Sea Ice Modulated by Strengthened North Atlantic Oscillation Leads to an Enhanced Impact on Asian Winter Cold Extremes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 11, 16 June 2025.
Abstract Arctic sea ice concentration (SIC) exhibits significant interannual variability despite a persistent decline due to global warming. This variability is influenced by atmospheric internal variability such as the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the Pacific‐North American pattern (PNA).

The determinants of length of stay in the Azores : a count model approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper employs count data models to estimate the determinants of length of stay, as count data models naturally lend themselves to overcome the censoring and truncation data issues associated with the non-negative, integer nature of length of stay ...

Review of the Diversity, Ecology, and Conservation of Elasmobranchs in the Azores Region, Mid-North Atlantic

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2017
A vulnerable species group, such as the elasmobranchs, in a data-deficient context presents a complicated management problem. Evidence suggests that the Azores islands, a remote archipelago on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, serve essential functions in the life-

Dynamics and evolution of the Azores Triple Junction and its relation to pre-existing major tectonic structures

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Triple junctions, where three tectonic plates meet, play a critical role in geodynamics. The Azores Triple Junction is critical in the study of triple junctions, challenging traditional models of triple junction stability.
