open access: yesDis Markers, 2021
Aim. Coronavirus disease (COVID‐19) ranges from mild clinical phenotypes to life‐threatening conditions like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). It has been suggested that early liver injury in these patients could be a risk factor for poor outcome.

'It's Not All About Medication': Improving the Use of Sensory Approaches in an Acute Mental Health Unit-A Qualitative Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Ment Health Nurs
ABSTRACT Improving the use of recovery‐orientated and trauma‐informed practices, such as sensory approaches, in acute mental health units (AMHUs) has proven challenging, and the biomedical model predominates. Limited research has explored how addressing local barriers to the use of sensory approaches can change clinical practice in these units.

Sensory approaches in psychiatric units: Patterns and influences of use in one Australian health region. [PDF]

open access: yesAust Occup Ther J, 2022
Abstract Background/aim Australian guidelines and policies recommend the use of sensory approaches in mental health care. Nevertheless, many Australian psychiatric units report difficulty sustaining these approaches. To inform efforts to close the gap between recommendations and practice, the aim of this study was to understand the patterns of use of ...

Improving the Use of Sensory Approaches in an Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit Using a Co-Designed Multifaceted Implementation Strategy. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Ment Health Nurs
ABSTRACT Despite the therapeutic benefits of sensory approaches being well documented, little research has focused on improving their implementation in acute mental health units. The use of implementation frameworks to improve the use of evidence‐based practices has shown promising results in healthcare; however, there is little evidence for their use ...

Conservation threats and future prospects for the freshwater fishes of Ecuador: A hotspot of Neotropical fish diversity. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Biol, 2021
ABSTRACT Freshwater fish communities in Ecuador exhibit some of the highest levels of diversity and endemism in the Neotropics. Unfortunately, aquatic ecosystems in the country are under serious threat and conditions are deteriorating. In 2018–19, the government of Ecuador sponsored a series of workshops to examine the conservation status of Ecuador's ...

Using the Theoretical Domain Framework to understand what helps and hinders the use of different sensory approaches in Australian psychiatric units: A survey of mental health clinicians

open access: yesAustralian Occupational Therapy Journal, Volume 70, Issue 5, Page 599-616, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Background/Aim Although sensory approaches are recommended to relieve distress and agitation and reduce the use of seclusion and restraint, many Australian psychiatric units have struggled to sustain their practice. The aim of this study was to investigate the barriers and enablers influencing the use of different sensory approaches across one

Courts as an arena for socioenvironmental change: Lessons from the Argentine courts

open access: yesEuropean Law Journal, Volume 29, Issue 3-6, Page 294-311, May-November 2023., 2023
Abstract Trends in the Argentine courts indicate a judicial preference towards flexibility in light of possibly serious environmental consequences, particularly in relation to mining. Through a liberal interpretation of constitutional provisions where collective environmental rights are threatened, the courts have expanded access to justice, leading ...

THE IMPACT OF MEXICO’S LAND REFORM ON PERIURBAN HOUSING PRODUCTION: Neoliberal or Neocorporatist?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Volume 45, Issue 6, Page 964-984, November 2021., 2021
Abstract Changes to Mexico's Constitution in the 1990s marked the end of agrarian reform and the Revolutionary land regime which had allowed beneficiaries to work but not to sell their land. New legislation allowed individual parcels of ejido land to be converted into private property.

Land Trafficking and the Fertile Spaces of Legality

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Volume 45, Issue 1, Page 21-38, January 2021., 2021
Abstract Land trafficking, responsible for the unprecedented rate of urbanization in many Latin American cities, is often conceptualized through corruption as ‘abuses of public office for private gain’. While those involved in the practice rely at times on violence and illegality, their repertoire is sophisticated, allowing them to move in and out of ...

An Approach to the Computation of the Euler Number by means of the Vertex Chain Code

open access: yesComputational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
We present an approach to compute the number of holes in binary images using the Vertex Chain Code (VCC); the VCC was developed for representing and analyzing 2D shapes composed of cells. Using this code, it is possible to relate the outer to inner vertices of any 2D shape and to find interesting properties.
