Intrapleural rupture of the azygos vein
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1992Intrapleural rupture of the azygos vein associated with hypovolemic shock resulting from blunt chest trauma is reported. Management demanded an emergency department right thoracotomy with venous ligation. Aortography to rule out associated arterial injury was performed.

Congenital and acquired abnormalities of the azygos vein can affect its size and position. Alteration of contrast material flow dynamics of the azygos vein on computed tomography can be an indication of superior vena cava obstruction. Recognition and accurate characterization of abnormalities of the azygos vein on imaging studies is critical to ...

Resection of a leiomyosarcoma of the azygos vein
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1998We report the resection of a leiomyosarcoma of the azygos vein in an elderly woman. The rare nature of the tumor and the unusual site of origin are discussed.

We report a case of a "migrating" azygos vein developing after an abrupt spinal deformity adjacent to the azygos arch. A woman with a previously identified azygos lobe had a follow-up chest computed tomography that demonstrated the azygos vein dislocated medially to the fissure in its usual mediastinal position. The azygos lobe was intact.

We present a case of displacement of the azygos vein from the azygos fissure secondary to deflation of the azygos lobe during surgery. We discuss the anatomy of the azygos fissure and possible mechanisms for formation of the "empty" azygos fissure and the "vanishing" azygos fissure.

Ventriculoatrial shunting via the azygos vein [PDF]
The treatment of hydrocephalus has evolved through many stages but the "cure" is still elusive. It is not unusual for the neurosurgeon to find that the commonly used routes for catheter placement or sites for drainage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cannot be employed.

Idiopathic Saccular Aneurysm of the Azygos Vein
Echocardiography, 1985Abstract Idiopathic saccular aneurysm of the azygos vein is a rare condition. We report the case of a 52‐year‐old man with saccular aneurysm of the azygos vein who underwent surgical resection. Preoperative dynamic computed tomography revealed strong and rapid enhancement of the chest mass.

Azygos vein aneurysm as incidental finding
Vasa, 2013Azygos vein aneurysm is a very rare incidental finding. The great majority of cases available in the literature have been asymptomatic and have required no treatment.

Idiopathic Saccular Azygos Vein Aneurysm
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1998We present a case of asymptomatic saccular aneurysm of the azygos vein. This abnormality is exceedingly rare. Dynamic computed tomography revealed strong enhancement of the mass, suggesting a vascular structure, which was very important for preoperative diagnosis.
