Microstructure and mechanical properties of bilayer B4C/Si-B4C composite

Materials Today Communications, 2021
Abstract Bilayer B4C based composites, B4C/Si-B4C, consisting of B4C and B4C/Si two-layer, were obtained using hot pressing method. Effect of Si content on microstructure and mechanical properties of the B4C based layered composites was investigated. The B4C/Si-B4C samples showed good interfacial bonding with different Si additions (x = 4, 8, 12 and ...

Microstructure and mechanical properties of a three-layer B4C/Al–B4C/TiB2–B4C composite

Materials & Design (1980-2015), 2013
Abstract A three-layer structure material, consisting of B 4 C/Al, B 4 C/TiB 2 and B 4 C composites, was obtained using a two-step method for both hot pressing and aluminum infiltration in vacuum. The three-layer B 4 C/Al–B 4 C/TiB 2 –B 4 C composite showed good interfacial bonding.

Microstructural analyses of B4C–CeO2 and B4C–La2O3 ceramics

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2011
Abstract Effects of additions of CeO 2 and La 2 O 3 on microstructure and mechanical properties of B 4 C fabricated under and without hot press have been investigated. Vickers hardness and fracture strength are increased by hot press due to the reduction of porosity because the sintering rate is enhanced.

Chemical modification of B4C cap layers on Pd/B4C multilayers

Applied Surface Science, 2016
Abstract Chemical modifications of B 4 C cap layers on sputtered Pd/B 4 C multilayer coatings for X-ray optical applications were investigated using X-ray reflectivity, photoemission electron spectroscopy, photoemission electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy.

Directional crystallization of B4C–NbB2 and B4C–MoB2 eutectic compositions

Journal of Solid State Chemistry, 2004
Abstract We studied the directional crystallization of different compositions in B 4 C–NbB 2 and B 4 C–MoB 2 systems. The eutectic compositions for both systems are evaluated. It is shown that in the first system the rod-like eutectic structure is formed, in second, the “Chinese hieroglyphics”.

B4C/metal boride composites derived from B4C/metal oxide mixtures

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2007
Abstract This study examines the reactions occurring from room temperature to 2180 °C during the heating under argon of mixtures of B4C and metal oxides, as well as the properties of the ceramic composites prepared by these reactions. The cations of the oxides investigated, belonged to the transition metal and to the lanthanide groups.
