Apex predators exploit advantageous snow conditions across hunting modes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Advantageous snow conditions—in terms of snow depth and density—are among the most important features of the winter landscape for two apex predators, regardless of hunting strategy. In a warming climate, the knock‐on effects of a diminishing snowpack may reduce the hunting success of multiple large carnivore species.

Recent ATLAS results in the field of meson physics

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
Recent results on flavor physics are presented, using data from the ATLAS detector. The ϓ(nS) and charmonium inclusive production cross sections are discussed. J/ψ production associated with a W vector boson is presented.

Testing CPT with B mesons

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 1998
Apparent violations of CPT and Lorentz symmetry might arise in nature as a result of spontaneous symmetry breaking in a theory beyond the standard model. This talk summarizes a few relevant theoretical and experimental issues, with some emphasis on implications for CPT tests with neutral-B mesons.

Anomalous triple gauge couplings from B-meson and kaon observables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A bstractWe consider the three CP-conserving dimension-6 operators that encode the leading new-physics effects in the triple gauge couplings. The contributions to the standardmodel electromagnetic dipole and semi-leptonic vector and axial-vector ...

Mammalian herbivory indirectly shapes savanna arthropod communities but only at very low or high levels

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study investigates how large mammalian herbivores shape arthropod communities in African savannas, using a broad gradient of herbivory types and intensities to assess these effects under real‐world, non‐experimental conditions. Abstract Savanna ecosystems support unique biodiversity and provide livelihoods for millions of people.

Rare radiative leptonic B-decays

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
We obtain predictions for B(s) → e+e−γ and B(s) → μ+μ−γ decays. All the contributions containing long-distance QCD effects are calculated in the framework of relativistic quark model.

Exploring free-form smearing for bottomonium and B meson spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Free-form smearing was designed as a way to implement source operators of any desired shape. A variation of the method is introduced that reduces the computational cost by reducing the number of link multiplications to its absolute minimum.

An Overlooked Habitat‐Dependent Link Between Metabolism and Water Loss in Reptiles

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We measured the gas exchange of six lizard and six snake species, under high and low air humidity, and two intriguing patterns emerged. First, although desert species lose less water via evaporation than similar‐sized mesic species under similar conditions, water loss is virtually the same when each is exposed to its natural conditions.
