Rotation in sdB stars as revealed by stellar oscillations

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2018
An interesting opportunity offered by the detection of stellar oscillations is the possibility to infer the internal rotation rate of a star through the so-called rotational splittings. Such seismic measurements remained rather scarce for hot B subdwarf (

Deep Learning–driven Atmospheric Parameter Prediction for Hot Subdwarf Stars with Synthetic and Observed Spectra

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
We design a convolutional neural network incorporating channel attention and spatial attention mechanisms to predict atmospheric parameters of hot subdwarfs.

The empirical mass distribution of hot B subdwarfs: Implications for stellar evolution theory

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
Subdwarf B (sdB) stars are hot, compact, and evolved objects that form the very hot end of the horizontal branch, the so-called Extreme Horizontal Branch (EHB).

A search for pulsating blue stars in the vicinity of NGC 6791 using Kepler LC data

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
There are 18 known pulsating subdwarf B stars in the field of view of the Kepler spacecraft during phase one. The majority of them were observed in the short cadence mode and have been successfully investigated via asteroseismic methods.

The detection of binary companions to subdwarf B stars [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1998
Intermediate dispersion spectroscopy of a sample of 40 hot subdwarf B stars between 5500 and 9000A has been obtained. The sample includes a large fraction of targets which have been studied photometrically. Seven targets show strong lines arising from the infrared Ca ii triplet, the unequivocal signature of a cool companion.

Atmospheric parameters of field subdwarf B stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1994
High signal-to-noise ratio optical spectrophotometry of a sample of field subluminous B stars drawn largely from the Palomar Green ultraviolet-excess survey is analyzed with a new grid of model atmospheres and synthetic spectra. The stellar effective temperatures, surface gravities, and photospheric helium abundances are determined simultaneously from ...

Progress in the study of pulsating subdwarf B stars [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2015
AbstractDuring Kepler's main mission, nearly 20 pulsating subdwarf B (sdB: extreme horizontal branch stars) were discovered. Many of these stars were observed for three years, accumulating over 1.5 million observations. Only through these extended observations have we been able to identify pulsation modes, applying constraints for structure models ...

Discovery of the first outbursting hot subdwarf binary: ZTF J0007+4804

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Hot subdwarf binaries with white dwarf companions with orbital periods of less than two hours are progenitor candidates for massive single white dwarfs as well as a variety of thermonuclear explosions. Aims.
