A yield‐reducing introgression linked to sd1 in rice

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract The semi‐dwarf (sd1) allele was central to the Green Revolution, but its widespread use in US tropical japonica rice (Oryza sativa L.) may have introduced unintended effects through linkage drag. This study examined the genomic region surrounding sd1 using genome‐wide association and haplotype analyses in a multiparent population (MP6/8 ...

Beraprost Attenuates Starvation‐Induced Apoptosis and Protects Feline Endothelial Cells

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
This study established a feline endothelial cell starvation model to test the anti‐apoptotic effects of beraprost and its stereoisomers. Beraprost and beraprost‐314d reduced starvation‐induced apoptosis by inhibiting caspase‐3/7 activity and modulating Bax expression, while beraprost‐315d was less potent.

The Role of Faith‐Based Organisations in ‘Secular’ International Development Education: Theorising Religions and Development With an Exploratory Case Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Education, Volume 61, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Faith‐based organisations (FBOs) are recognised by the development community as key organisations and partners in development cooperation. Yet commitments to secularism underlying international development cooperation in policy and practice have—to a certain extent—restricted theoretical and empirical study of the involvement and contribution ...

Extent, characteristics and policy applications of Key Biodiversity Areas

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 1735-1759, August 2026.
ABSTRACT A global standard for the identification of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) was published 10 years ago to provide a unified set of criteria for identifying ‘sites of significance for the global persistence of biodiversity’. We review the initiative's origins, the KBA identification process, characteristics of the current network, threats, policy

Diagnostic Challenge of Pediatric Gaucher Disease in a Low‐Resource South Asian Setting: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Gaucher disease is a rare autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder that is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme “β‐glucocerebrosidase”, leading to the accumulation of glucocerebroside within macrophages. It commonly presents with hepatosplenomegaly, cytopenias, and bone marrow infiltration.

Experimental, Genomic, and Structural Evidence Supporting Putative PET‐Hydrolases in Thermophilic Bacteria Isolated From Hot Springs in Cajamarca, Peru

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Integrated microbiological, genomic, and structural analyses of bacteria isolated from a Peruvian geothermal system reveal enzymatic potential for the transformation of polyesters such as PET. This study links experimental evidence with genomic determinants and in silico analyses that support the thermophilic bacteria biodegradation capacity.
