Community structure of pollinating insects and its driving factors in different habitats of Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park, Nepal. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2022
We sampled the pollinators along the elevation gradients of Shivapuri–Nagarjun National Park in four types of habitats; forest trail, grassland, trails of managed habitat, and open trail of the forest. Open trail of the forest that hold more floral resources was high in the species richness and abundance of insect pollinators that decrease with the ...

A DNA barcode library for 5,200 German flies and midges (Insecta: Diptera) and its implications for metabarcoding-based biomonitoring. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Ecol Resour, 2019
Abstract This study summarizes results of a DNA barcoding campaign on German Diptera, involving analysis of 45,040 specimens. The resultant DNA barcode library includes records for 2,453 named species comprising a total of 5,200 barcode index numbers (BINs), including 2,700 COI haplotype clusters without species‐level assignment, so called “dark taxa.”

We know very little about pollination in the Platanthera Rich (Orchidaceae: Orchidoideae). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This review of Platanthera pollination ecology shows that there are a number of orchid species in the group without pollinator information. Considerable knowledge gaps were identified even for those species where pollinator information has been reported, and these gaps impact our ability to appropriately manage orchid and pollinator populations, which ...

Systematics and evolution of predatory flower flies (Diptera: Syrphidae) based on exon‐capture sequencing

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 250-277, April 2023., 2023
We developed a new bait kit (SYRPHIDAE1.0) to target 1945 CDS regions belonging to 1312 orthologous genes using genome reduction methods. Our analyses using maximum likelihood and multispecies coalescent models support the division of Syrphinae into four tribes. We define Syrphini stat.rev. to include the genera Toxomerus and Paragus.

Target‐group backgrounds prove effective at correcting sampling bias in Maxent models

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 128-141, January 2022., 2022
Abstract Aim Accounting for sampling bias is the greatest challenge facing presence‐only and presence‐background species distribution models; no matter what type of model is chosen, using biased data will mask the true relationship between occurrences and environmental predictors.

Care and Resistance

open access: yesAnthropology and Humanism, Volume 45, Issue 2, Page 194-201, December 2020., 2020
Summary I consider the ways in which acts of kinship among British South Asians such as the suitable arrangement of a child’s marriage can be rejected by the child as an act of care and reframed as acts of force. Drawing on ethnographic research with people who have experienced “forced marriage,” I examine the processes through which they come to re ...

Iucundus nominis error (Ov. Ars 3, 729). Procri rustica puella nell’Ars amatoria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018

Phylogenetic relationships of the bacchine flower flies (Diptera: Syrphidae) based on molecular characters, with a description of a new species of Melanostoma (Schiner, 1860)

open access: yesContributions to Zoology, 2020
The phylogenetic relationships among the genera of the tribe Bacchini sensu lato (i.e., Syrphinae with simple, unsegmented aedeagus) were inferred using molecular evidence.
