Background Independence and Quantum Causal Structure [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum, 2022
One of the key ways in which quantum mechanics differs from relativity is that it requires a fixed background reference frame for spacetime. In fact, this appears to be one of the main conceptual obstacles to uniting the two theories.

Background-independent composite gravity [PDF]

open access: yesClassical and Quantum Gravity, 2021
Abstract We explore a background-independent model of composite gravity. In a mean-field approximation, the vacuum expectation value of the composite metric satisfies Einstein’s equations (with corrections) as a consistency condition. A gravitational interaction then emerges in vacuum correlation functions.

Space–Time Physics in Background-Independent Theories of Quantum Gravity

open access: yesUniverse, 2021
Background independence is often emphasized as an important property of a quantum theory of gravity that takes seriously the geometrical nature of general relativity.

Quantum Gravity: A Fluctuating Point of View

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2021
In this contribution, we discuss the asymptotic safety scenario for quantum gravity with a functional renormalization group approach that disentangles dynamical metric fluctuations from the background metric.

Background Independence in Gauge Theories [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Henri Poincaré, 2020
AbstractClassical field theory is insensitive to the split of the field into a background configuration and a dynamical perturbation. In gauge theories, the situation is complicated by the fact that a covariant (w.r.t. the background field) gauge fixing breaks this split independence of the action.

Signal-Independent Background Calibration with Fast Convergence Speed in Pipeline-SAR ADC

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
This brief proposes a signal-independent background calibration in pipeline-SAR analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with a convergence-accelerated technique.

Null hypothesis test for anomaly detection

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2023
We extend the use of Classification Without Labels for anomaly detection with a hypothesis test designed to exclude the background-only hypothesis. By testing for statistical independence of the two discriminating dataset regions, we are able to exclude ...

From the concept of Independence to the questioning of its use in practice: scoping review

open access: yesEnfermería Global, 2022
Background: Independence is a widely used concept by the most practical areas of health knowledge, being essential to know its real meaning for subsequent application.

Three-point functions in N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 SYM at finite N c and background independence

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
We compute non-extremal three-point functions of scalar operators in N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 super Yang-Mills at tree-level in g YM and at finite N c , using the operator basis of the restricted Schur characters.
