Background subtraction (BS) is one of the most commonly encountered tasks in video analysis and tracking systems. It distinguishes the foreground (moving objects) from the video sequences captured by static imaging sensors.

Video Background Segmentation Using Adaptive Background Models [PDF]
This paper proposes an adaptive background model which combines the advantages of both Eigenbackground and pixel-based gaussian models. This method exploits the illumination changes by Eigenbackground. Moreover, it can detect the chroma changes and remove shadow pixels using gaussian models. An adaptively strategy is used to integrate two models.

Robust background modelling in DIALS
A method for estimating the background under each reflection during integration that is robust in the presence of pixel outliers is presented. The method uses a generalized linear model approach that is more appropriate for use with Poisson distributed data than traditional approaches to pixel outlier handling in integration programs.

A Background Foreground Competitive Model for Background Subtraction in Dynamic Background
AbstractBackground subtraction is used to remove the relatively motionless background information from video frames and to detect moving objects. Several methods have been proposed for nonparametric modelling of the background. In this paper a novel method for simultaneous non parametric modelling of background and foreground is proposed, which is ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.
