Background music and industrial efficiency—A review
Applied Ergonomics, 1971The use of music in industry is discussed as a possible means of aiding alertness, especially in jobs where a certain amount of repetition is involved. Examples are given of the beneficial results obtained by using music in this way and finally there is a discussion on the form of music and the length of programme.

Sensorimotor adaptation is influenced by background music
Experimental Brain Research, 2010It is well established that listening to music can modify subjects' cognitive performance. The present study evaluates whether this so-called Mozart Effect extends beyond cognitive tasks and includes sensorimotor adaptation. Three subject groups listened to musical pieces that in the author's judgment were serene, neutral, or sad, respectively.

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1997Although speech and vocal music are consistently shown to impair serial recall for visually presented items, instrumental music does not always produce a significant disruption. This study investigated the features of instrumental music that would modulate the disruption in serial recall.
