An empirical equation for the backscattering coefficient of electrons

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1971
Abstract Backscattering coefficient η of monoenergetic electrons impinging normally of the thick target has been found to be expressed by an empirical equation of the form η = a 1 (1 + a 2 τ a3 ) , where τ is the incident kinetic energy in units of the rest energy of the electron, and the parameters ai (i = 1, 2, 3) are given

Absorption coefficients of ozone for the backscatter UV experiment

Applied Optics, 1980
Band-averaged absorption coefficients for the wavelength channels of the backscatter ultraviolet (BUV) experiment are computed using the laboratory ozone absorption measurements of several experimenters. For the major ozone-determining channels on the BUV (3125 and 3175 A) the various coefficients ranged from +/-11 to +/-4%, respectively, about the ...

Study of the backscattering coefficient and the interferometric coherence of mangrove forests

IGARSS 2003. 2003 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37477), 2004
We propose to use a coherent model in order to compute the backscattering coefficient /spl sigma/ and the interferometric coherence /spl gamma/ of several stands of mangrove forests at P band. At this frequency, we may expect strong coherent effects reflecting the interactions between the ground and the forest scatterers.

Extracting electron backscattering coefficients from backscattered electron micrographs

Materials Characterization, 2010
Electron backscattering micrographs possess the so-called Z-contrast, carrying information about the chemical compositions of phases present in microstructures. The intensity at a particular point in the backscattered electron micrograph is proportional to the signal detected at a corresponding point in the scan raster, which is, in turn, proportional ...

Tests of backscatter coefficient measurement using broadband pulses

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 1993
An adaptation to a data reduction method is outlined for determining backscatter coefficients, eta, when broad-bandwidth pulses are employed. The accuracy of these eta values is assessed with well-characterized phantoms, for which backscatter coefficients based on their physical properties have been independently calculated.

Extracting Quantitative Ultrasonic Parameters from the Backscatter Coefficient

2023
The ultrasonic backscatter coefficient (BSC) is a fundamental quantitative ultrasound (QUS) parameter that contains rich information about the underlying tissue. Deriving parameters from the BSC is essential for fully utilizing the information contained in BSC for tissue characterization. In this chapter, we review two primary approaches for extracting

Anisotropy of the backscatter coefficient of formalin-fixed ovine myocardium

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007
The objective of this study was to measure the backscatter coefficient of formalin-fixed myocardial tissue as a function of angle of insonification relative to the myocardial fiber direction. Backscatter measurements were performed on eight cylindrical formalin-fixed lamb myocardial specimens and compensated for attenuation and diffraction effects to ...

Comarison between the microwave emissivity and backscatter coefficient of crops

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1989
After recalling the definitions of some basic quantities measured by active and passive microwave sensors, the interrelations between emission and scattering are discussed. The particular case of a half-space of isotropic scatterers, for which a simple relation between emissivity and backscatter coefficient holds, is considered as a refer ence to ...

Separation of Channel Backscattering Coefficients in Nanoscale MOSFETs

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2004
Channel backscattering coefficients in the k/sub B/T layer (near the source) of 1.65-nm-thick gate oxide, 68-nm gate length bulk n-channel MOSFETs are systematically separated into two distinct components: the quasithermal-equilibrium mean-free-path for backscattering and the width of the k/sub B/T layer.

Spectral analysis of echoes for backscattering coefficient measurement

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1985
This paper describes spectral analyses of echoes scattered by a random medium and a plane reflector by using mathematical expressions of echoes which have been proposed by us before [M. Ueda and H. Ichikawa, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 70, 1768–1775 (1981): 75, 1012 (1984)].
