Estimating specific inherent optical properties of tropical coastal waters using bio-optical model inversion and in situ measurements: case of the Berau estuary, East Kalimantan, Indonesia

open access: yes, 2010
Specific inherent optical properties (SIOP) of the Berau coastal waters were derived from in situ measurements and inversion of an ocean color model. Field measurements of water-leaving reflectance, total suspended matter (TSM), and chlorophyll a (Chl a)

Type‐II Dirac Fermions in Monolayer In2O: Interplay of Magnetotransport, Spin Hall Effect, and Superconductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
First‐principles calculations reveal that monolayer In2O${\rm In}_2{\rm O}$ hosts type‐II Dirac fermions near the Fermi level, which split into Weyl points under spin‐orbit coupling. The material exhibits negative and giant magnetoresistance, a pronounced spin Hall effect, and phonon‐mediated superconductivity at 1.5 K, establishing it as a unique ...

Measurement of cloud integrated backscattering coefficient with a nephelometer

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1991
We describe the application of a nephelometer to in‐situ, real‐time measurement of the integrated backscattering coefficient σbs of cloud drops. For thin and moderately thick clouds, this quantity is related to the cloud albedo A, for 0° zenith solar radiation, through the relation A=σbsL, where L is the geometric cloud thickness.

Spectral dependence of the relationship between backscattering and extinction coefficients. in turbid atmospheres with application to lidar signal inversion

open access: yes, 1993
165-179The relationship between backscattering and extinction coefficients in a turbid atmosphere is examined for four wavelengths, viz. 400, 514.5, 694.3 and 1060 nm.

Fiber taper characterization by optical backscattering reflectometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Fiber tapers provide a way to rapidly measure the spectra of many types of optical microcavities. Proper fabrication of the taper ensures that its width varies sufficiently slowly (adiabatically) along the length of the taper so as to maintain single ...

High‐Throughput Data Generation and Transfer Learning Enabled Microstructure‐Property Integrated Design of Nickel‐Based Powder Metallurgy Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrated transfer learning framework integrates CALPHAD simulations, diffusion‐multiple experiments, and literature data to predict long‐term microstructural stability and short‐term mechanical properties of Ni‐based powder metallurgy superalloys. Based on these model predictions, a high‐performance, low‐density alloy, USTB‐PM750, is designed from

High‐Power Terahertz Emission from Picosecond Nano‐Plasma Switching Driven by Secondary Electron Emission Avalanche

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nano‐plasma device enables watt‐level on‐chip THz generation through picosecond switching triggered by secondary electron emission avalanche. An ultra‐dense electron sheet initiates nano‐plasma formation within a ∼100 nm gap, driving rapid energy release into an integrated resonator.

Measurements of optical properties of atmospheric aerosols in Northern Finland [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2006
Three years of continuous measurements of aerosol optical properties and simultaneous aerosol number size distribution measurements at Pallas GAW station, a remote subarctic site in the northern border of the boreal forest zone, have been analysed.

Janus‐Type Electrostatic Potential Gradient‐Activated Dynamic Zn2+‐Coordinating Nitrogen Sites in Molecularly Locked Nanocellulose Separators for Stable Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multifunctional benzimidazole‐terminated CNF separator is constructed via a PEI‐mediated covalent locking strategy, generating dense zincophilic sites that accelerate Zn2+ transport and desolvation while enabling uniform Zn (002) deposition and suppressing side reactions.
