Quantitative Aspects, Engineering and Optimization of Bacterial Sensor Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Bacterial sensor systems can be used for the detection and measurement of molecular signal concentrations. The dynamics of the sensor directly depend on the biological properties of the bacterial sensor cells; manipulation of these features in the wet lab enables the engineering and optimization of the bacterial sensor kinetics.

Rush to Judgment: The STI-Treatment Trials and HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa

open access: yes, 2015
Introduction: The extraordinarily high incidence of HIV in sub-Saharan Africa led to the search for cofactor infections that could explain the high rates of transmission in the region.

Bacterial vaginosis in pregnant adolescents: proinflammatory cytokine and bacterial sialidase profile. Cross-sectional study

open access: yesSão Paulo Medical Journal
CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Bacterial vaginosis occurs frequently in pregnancy and increases susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections (STI). Considering that adolescents are disproportionally affected by STI, the aim of this study was to evaluate the

Bacterial swimming and accumulation on endothelial cell surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Flagellar-driven locomotion plays a critical role in bacterial attachment and colonization of surfaces, contributing to the risks of contamination and infection. Tremendous attempts to uncover the underlying principles governing bacterial motility near surfaces have relied on idealized assumptions of surrounding inorganic boundaries.

Bacterial cooperation leads to heteroresistance [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
By challenging E. coli with sublethal norfloxacin for 10 days, Henry Lee and James Collins suggests the bacterial altruism leads to the population-wide resistance. By detailedly analyzing experiment data, we suggest that bacterial cooperation leads to population-wide resistance under norfloxacin pressure and simultaneously propose the bacteria shield ...

comparsion of lhe Elfectiveness of Lactobecillt Sappositoty with Metronidazol vagind rablet on Yaginal p*,.Sigrrs and Symptoms of Bacteriat vaginosis. [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: Bacterial vaginosis is characterized by a imbalance in the vaginal ecosystem, this change is due to an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria and a contaminant decrease in the number of lactobacilli and increase in vaginal pH more that 4.5. Normal

Concentration banding instability of a sheared bacterial suspension [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We demonstrate a novel shear-induced mechanism for growth of concentration fluctuations in a bacterial suspension. Using a linear stability analysis, a homogeneously sheared suspension is shown to support exponentially growing layering perturbations in the shear-rate and bacterial concentration.
