Development and Daily Management of an Explicit Strategy of Nonuse of Antimicrobial Drugs in Twelve Danish Organic Dairy Herds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Promotion of animal health and well-being at the individual animal and herd level is an important goal in organic farming. At the same time, chemical products affecting the natural balance among living organisms are prohibited in all areas of the organic

Migration of chemotactic bacteria in soft agar: role of gel concentration [PDF]

open access: yesBiophys. J. Volume 101, Issue 3, 3 August 2011, Pages 525-534, 2011
We study the migration of chemotactic wild-type Escherichia coli populations in semisolid (soft) agar in the concentration range C = 0.15-0.5% (w/v). For C < 0.35%, expanding bacterial colonies display characteristic chemotactic rings. At C = 0.35%, however, bacteria migrate as broad circular bands rather than sharp rings.

Advanced Stationary Point Concentration Technique for Leakage Mitigation and Small Drone Detection with FMCW Radar [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques ( Volume: 69 , Issue: 3 , March 2021 ), 2020
As the threats of small drones have grown, developing radars to detect the small drones has become an important issue. In earlier studies, we proposed the stationary point concentration (SPC) technique for the small drone detection with frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar. The SPC technique is a new approach to mitigate the leakage that is

Outbreak of encephalitic listeriosis in red-legged partridges (Alectoris rufa) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An outbreak of neurological disease was investigated in red-legged partridges between 8 and 28 days of age. Clinical signs included torticollis, head tilt and incoordination and over an initial eight day period approximately 30–40 fatalities occurred per

Control of fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) on apple trees with trunk-injected plant resistance inducers and antibiotics and assessment of induction of pathogenesis-related protein genes

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Management of fire blight is complicated by limitations on use of antibiotics in agriculture, antibiotic resistance development, and limited efficacy of alternative control agents.

RamanNet: A generalized neural network architecture for Raman Spectrum Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Raman spectroscopy provides a vibrational profile of the molecules and thus can be used to uniquely identify different kind of materials. This sort of fingerprinting molecules has thus led to widespread application of Raman spectrum in various fields like medical dignostics, forensics, mineralogy, bacteriology and virology etc.

Assessment of treatment response in tuberculosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Antibiotic treatment of tuberculosis has a duration of several months. There is significant variability of the host immune response and the pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic properties of Mycobacterium tuberculosis sub-populations at the site of disease. A

The role of antibiotics in the treatment of chronic prostatitis: A consensus statement [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Practical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic prostatitis are presented. Chronic prostatitis is classified as chronic bacterial prostatitis (culture-positive) and chronic inflammatory prostatitis (culture-negative). If chronic bacterial

Bacterial hydrodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bacteria predate plants and animals by billions of years. Today, they are the world's smallest cells yet they represent the bulk of the world's biomass, and the main reservoir of nutrients for higher organisms. Most bacteria can move on their own, and the majority of motile bacteria are able to swim in viscous fluids using slender helical appendages ...
