The »Carniolan crab« from Middle Miocene – Badenian beds in the Lipovica quarry above Bri{e, Slovenia

open access: greenGeologija, 2003
Examined were remains of »Carniolan crab« of the decapod species Tasadia carniolica (Bittner, 1884) from Middle Miocene – Badenian beds in the Lipovica quarry above Briše.The species was first established in Slovenia in a locality between Tunjice and ...

A mid-miocene age for the Slanci formation near Belgrade (Serbia), based on a record of the primitive antelope Eotragus cf. Clavatus from Višnjica [PDF]

open access: yesGeološki Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva, 2007
In a borhole at Veliko Selo near Belgrade in the Miocene lacustrine sediments Slanci, which are locally known as the Slanačka Serija, a mammal tooth was found. The age of these deposits is under discussion.

Stratigraphy revision of upper Badenian of Rakovica stream near Belgrade (Central Paratethys, Serbia) [PDF]

open access: yesGeološki Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva, 2020
Belgrade area is a region of high paleobiodiversity, being ranked among the best known in Serbia. The prominent position among a number of Middle Miocene (Badenian) fossiliferous sites in the vicinity of Belgrade (southern Pannonian Basin, Central ...

Miocene tectonic activity at the boundary between NE Pannonian and NW Transylvanian basins (Romania): Insight from new seismic data

open access: yesTerra Nova, Volume 35, Issue 6, Page 542-551, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Situated at the junction between the Eastern Carpathians Mountains, the Pannonian and the Transylvanian basins, the Baia Mare region (Romania) has a complex geological history that witnessed the interaction among the three main tectonic provinces.

Using Raman spectroscopy to detect scytonemin of epiliths and endoliths from marble, serpentinite and gypsum

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, Volume 54, Issue 11, Page 1280-1296, November 2023., 2023
Here, we present Raman spectra showing the presence and distribution of scytonemin and carotenoids in epilithic and endolithic colonisations from temperate locations in Central Europe and Sicily. In the Bohemian Massif, marble and serpentinitic (see picture) cyanobacterial epiliths dominated by cyanobacteria Scytonema, Stigonema, Hassallia ...

Incorporate temporal topology in a deep‐time knowledge base to facilitate data‐driven discovery in geoscience

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal, Volume 10, Issue 4, Page 489-499, October 2023., 2023
We created a deep‐time knowledge base that consists of knowledge graphs correlating international and regional geologic time scales, an online service of the knowledge graphs, and an R package to access the service. The knowledge base uses temporal topology to enable comparison and reasoning between various intervals and points in the geologic time ...

The Ries impact and its distal effects in sediments of Central Europe—A review

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 58, Issue 4, Page 446-462, April 2023., 2023
Abstract The Ries impact is the most important cosmic event in the younger geological history of Europe. Its effects reach far beyond the area considered so far and are documented in manifold evidence. In this paper, the widely scattered reports in the literature are compiled and supported with investigations by the authors.

Geotechnical reconnaissance of an extensive cover‐collapse sinkhole phenomena of 2020–2021 Petrinja earthquake sequence (Central Croatia)

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 653-686, February 2023., 2023
This article presents geotechnical reconnaissance data that characterize the formation of 122 new and 49 historical cover‐collapse sinkholes within 1.13 km2 area in 12 months following the MW 6.4 earthquake that occurred on 29 December 2020, in Petrinja, Croatia.

Chondrichthyan (Holocephali, Squalomorphii and Batomorphii) remains from the Badenian of southern Hungary (Tekeres, Mecsek Mountains): the first deepwater cartilaginous fishes from the Middle Miocene of the Central Paratethys

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 8, Issue 6, November/December 2022., 2022
Abstract Middle Miocene (Badenian) chondrichthyan fossils collected from the Tekeres Schlieren Member of the Baden Formation at Tekeres (southern Hungary, Mecsek Mts) are described here. The chondrichthyan assemblage is exceptionally diverse and well‐preserved, and consists of holocephalans, selachians and batomorphs.
