Assessing Volcanic Controls on Miocene Climate Change

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 49, Issue 2, 28 January 2022., 2022
Abstract The Miocene period saw substantially warmer Earth surface temperatures than today, particularly during a period of global warming called the Mid Miocene Climatic Optimum (MMCO; ∼17–15 Ma). However, the long‐term drivers of Miocene climate remain poorly understood.

Sedimentological and carbonate isotope signatures to identify fluvial processes and catchment changes in a supposed impact ejecta‐dammed lake (Miocene, Germany)

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 68, Issue 7, Page 2965-2995, December 2021., 2021
Abstract The identification and distinction of fluvial from lacustrine deposits and the recognition of catchment changes are crucial for the reconstruction of climate changes in terrestrial environments. The investigated drill core succession shows a general evolution from red–brown claystones to white–grey marlstones and microcrystalline limestones ...

Evidence for Badenian local sea level changes in the proximal area of the North Croatian Basin

open access: yesGeologia Croatica, 2010
Quantitative analysis of palynomorphs, foraminifera and ostracods enabled the recognition of biotic events and the reconstruction of environmental change in the Badenian sediments from the Vrhovčak section of Mt. Samoborsko gorje (NW Croatia). During the

Spatio‐temporal insights into microbiology of the freshwater‐to‐hypersaline, oxic‐hypoxic‐euxinic waters of Ursu Lake

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 23, Issue 7, Page 3523-3540, July 2021., 2021
Summary Ursu Lake is located in the Middle Miocene salt deposit of Central Romania. It is stratified, and the water column has three distinct water masses: an upper freshwater‐to‐moderately saline stratum (0–3 m), an intermediate stratum exhibiting a steep halocline (3–3.5 m), and a lower hypersaline stratum (4 m and below) that is euxinic (i.e. anoxic

Stratigraphic implications of the Middle Miocene of the Despotovac area: Recognition of two geological formations [PDF]

open access: yesGeološki Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva
The Middle Miocene of the Despotovac area contains sediments of the lower Middle Miocene (Badenian) and upper Middle Miocene (Sarmatian). The Middle Miocene deposition shows different local variations, but generally fits the evolution of the Central ...

The first evidence of marine Badenian transgression near Koceljeva (central Paratethys, Western Serbia) [PDF]

open access: yesGeološki Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva, 2019
This paper presents the first detailed biostratigraphic investigation of deposits cropping out in stream Sumijevac near Koceljeva (western Serbia). The most important fossil communities and their significance are presented.

Badenian mollusks from Rachitova (Hateg Depression, Romania)

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babes-Bolyai, Geologia, 2000
1 ABSTRACT. The paper presents in systematic order the mollusk assemblage collected from one outcrop on Lacului Brook (left tributary to Rachitova Valley). There were identified 33 taxa (22 gastropods, 9 bivalves and 2 scaphopods) and the whole assemblage is characteristic to the Badenian deposits in the studied area.

Carbon and oxygen isotopic composition of the Middle Miocene Badenian gypsum-associated limestones of West Ukraine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The middle Miocene Badenian basin of the Carpathian Foredeep is characterized by complex sedimentary and diagenetic carbonate-evaporite transitions. Six locations have been selected to evaluate the controls on the carbon and oxygen isotopic composition ...

Miocene paleogeography and biostratigraphy of the Slovenj Gradec Basin: a marine corridor between the Mediterranean and Central Paratethys

open access: yesGeologica Carpathica, 2018
The Miocene evolution of the area transitional from the Eastern Alps to the Pannonian Basin System was studied through the paleogeographic evolution of the Slovenj Gradec Basin in northern Slovenia.

Statistical analysis of Neogene sediment thickness deposited during the first transtensional and first transpressional evolutionary stages in the Bjelovar Sub-basin, Northern Croatia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The Bjelovar Sub-basin is situated in Northern Croatia and constitutes the southwestern branch of the Drava Basin. The Neogene-Quaternary sedimentary section can be subdivided into three megacycles, which are separated by regional unconformities.
