Wildlife disease ecology from the individual to the population: Insights from a long‐term study of a naturally infected European badger population

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, 2018
Long-term individual-based datasets on host-pathogen systems are a rare and valuable resource for understanding the infectious disease dynamics in wildlife.

Hystrix in Greek [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Dictionaries of the Ancient Greek language distinguish only two or three different meanings of the Greek word ὕστριξ. The present author analyses all the contexts and glosses where the word in question appears.

Thelazia callipaeda in mustelids from Romania with the European badger, Meles meles, as a new host for this parasite

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2019
Thelazia callipaeda (Spirurida, Thelaziidae) is a vector-borne zoonotic eye worm with a broad host spectrum. In Europe, it is an emerging threat, having greatly expanded its geographical distribution during the past two decades. In Romania, T. callipaeda

Prognostic Implications of Sleep Architecture for Patients Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit With Status Epilepticus

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Status epilepticus (SE) is associated with significant mortality. Sleep architecture may reflect normal brain function. Impaired sleep architecture is associated with poorer outcomes in numerous conditions. Here we investigate the association of sleep architecture in continuous EEG (cEEG) with survival in SE.

Advancing Electronic Application of Coordination Solids: Enhancing Electron Transport and Device Integration via Surface‐Mounted MOFs (SURMOFs)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...

A Physiological Microfluidic Blood–Brain‐Barrier Model for In Vitro Study of Nanoparticle Trafficking and Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human microfluidic blood‐brain barrier (mBBB) model enables spatially resolved comparison of nanoparticle trafficking. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), liposomes, and nanoplastics exhibit distinct transport and disruption behaviors, revealing that membrane composition and uptake pathways govern BBB interaction.

Photolyzable Polymer Brushes: Subtractive 3D Structuring of Surfaces Using Water and Light

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Facile structuring of polymer brushes is achieved by flipping the process from controlled growth to controlled brush photolysis. Using surface‐initiated radical ring‐opening polymerization of cyclic monomers with photocleavable cyclobutane rings, photodegradable targets are embedded into the polymer chains. The enabled continuous subtractive patterning

Determination of residual alkyl iodides and alkyl bromides as their corresponding alkyl chlorides in drug substances by headspace GC-FID

open access: yesHeliyon
Primary and secondary alkyl iodides and primary alkyl bromides were quickly and conveniently converted into their corresponding alkyl chlorides via SN2 halide-halide substitution.
