Abstract The continental margin of Baffin Island was interpreted from a compilation of seismic reflection and potential field data. Based on these data, it was divided into volcanic and non-volcanic segments. In the northernmost area, coast-parallel grabens and continental basement highs are superseded beneath the slope by irregular basement ...

Abstract The North Water Polynya (NOW) is one of the most productive marine environments in the Arctic. With Arctic sea-ice cover a prominent control in the production of marine organic matter (OM), polynyas are likely to be sentinels of the effects of recent change in ice climate. We collected six sediment cores from the NOW, dated them using 210Pb,

Terrestrial records from the Canadian Arctic Archipelago indicate that a temperate and moist climate prevailed during the Pliocene, i.e., before the intensification of Northern Hemisphere glaciations, but the controlling factors causing these conditions remains elusive.

Abstract Orientations of boulders in ground moraines, in front of end or lateral moraines, and on outwash plains yield statistically significant preferred orientations which agree with other evidence of the direction of former glacier movements.

The authors, J.A. Stravers, G.H. Miller, and D.S. Kaufman, have provided an important synthesis of ongoing research bordering outer Hudson Strait. Their reconstruction proposes that on two occasions during the early Holocene, Labrador Sector ice crossed Hudson Strait to override parts of southeast Baffin Island.

The Arctic is highly sensitive to present climate change and is known to be affected by higher degrees of warming than any other region. Since the Arctic is strongly linked to the global climate system by atmospheric and oceanic circulations, it is crucial to learn more about present and possible future environmental changes in the region.

The tectonometamorphic histories of basement and cover units in the eastern Trans-Hudson Orogen attest to the importance of structural, geohydrological, and magmatic controls on the attainment of metamorphic conditions in a convergent-plate-margin setting.

Cores HU82‐034‐057 and HU84‐035‐008, Resolution Basin, SE Baffin Shelf, contain 200 and 450 cm, respectively, of sediment that spans the Younger Dryas chron. In both cores the interval is bracketed by 14C dates on foraminifera or molluscs. These sites were close to the margin of the late Wisconsin (Foxe) ice sheet as it flowed toward the Labrador Sea ...
