Abstract This chapter explores the provisions for bail of youth defendants. Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 37(1), depriving a child of their liberty during criminal proceedings should be a measure of last resort.

In the aftermath of the European sovereign debt crisis, the question of who should bear the burden of banking crises has been a cornerstone of the new supervisory framework in Europe. We evaluate the bail-in regulation (BRRD) for bank bond holdings using a proprietary database covering holdings of all euro-denominated securities.

This chapter examines the powers and duties given to custody officers and the courts to grant bail in criminal proceedings. It highlights how Bail may be granted unconditionally or conditionally. Custody officers will generally release people on bail before charges to return to a police station or after charges to a magistrates' court.
