Localized Laser Heat Treatment on AISI 1045 Steel Using a LPBF Laser

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2025.
A LPBF laser was used to locally heat‐treat the surface of normalized AISI 1045 steel bars. While sections of overheating were seen, adaptations of previously published energy density models were able to determine valid parameters to create a hardened martensitic surface.

Prediction of the mechanical behaviour of TRIP steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
TRIP steel typically contains four different phases, ferrite, bainite, austenite and martensite. During deformation the metastable retained austenite tends to transform to stable martensite.

Bimodal Size-distribution of Bainite Plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
There are two well-known phenomena associated with the bainite reaction, which have been exploited in the present work to enhance the mechanical behaviour of steel.

The Influence of Microstructure and Process Design on the Plastic Stability of 4 wt% Medium‐Manganese Steels

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 96, Issue 1, January 2025.
Air‐hardening forging steels are a new steel concept, promising high strength and ductility combinations in combination with a reduced environmental impact. Herein, the effect of the microstructure before intercritical annealing is discussed in regard to microstructure evolution and strain hardening behavior.

Application possibility of arc welding processes for long butt joint of 75Mn steel plates without preheating

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
An arc welding process for long butt joint of high carbon −75Mn steel plates without preheating was selected, assuring quality of weld and productivity. Abstract In order to ensure the stability of the track mechanical device, this paper solves the problem of attaching the lock flange to the side of the rail.

Effects of normalizing and tempering temperature on the bainite microstructure and properties of low alloy fire-resistant steel bars

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes
Different combinations of normalizing and tempering were carried out to optimize the microstructure and enhance the high-temperature mechanical properties of HRB400FR fire-resistant steel bars. The results showed that with the increasing of the tempering

Effect of Pipe Flattening in API X65 Linepipe Steels Having Bainite vs. Ferrite/Pearlite Microstructures

open access: yesMetals, 2018
The influence of microstructure on pipe flattening response was assessed using two different commercially produced U-ing, O-ing, and expansion (UOE) pipes from API X65 steels having either a bainitic microstructure (steel B) or a ferrite/pearlite ...

Vanadium Effect on a Medium Carbon Forging Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2016
In the present work the influence of vanadium on the hardenability and the bainitic transformation of a medium carbon steel is analyzed. While V in solid solution enhances the former, it hardly affects bainitic transformation.
