Understanding of the Bainite Transformation in a Nano-Structured Bainitic Steel

Solid State Phenomena, 2011
A 0.79C-1.5Si-1.98Mn-0.98Cr-0.24Mo-1.06Al-1.58Co (wt%) steel was isothermally heat treated at 200°C for 10 days to form a nano-scale bainitic microstructure consisting of nanobainitic ferrite laths with high dislocation density and retained austenite films.

On Bainite Transformation Kinetics and Mechanism

Materials Science Forum, 2007
The platelike bainitic ferrite growth rates were calculated by two modified diffusional models. Good agreements between experimental and theoretical results are found in Fe-0.59C wt.%, Fe-0.81C wt.% and Fe-0.478C-4.87Ni wt.% alloys. A slowing down effect due to the alloying element Mo is emphasized in Fe-0.69C-1.8Ni-0.8Mo wt.% alloy.

The mechanism of bainite transformation in steels

Scripta Materialia, 2002
Abstract Sympathetic nucleation and ledgewise growth are competitive with each other throughout the bainite formation in steels. Many evidences are provided to support this mechanism as follows: ultra-fine structures of bainite and its surface relief, and carbide nucleation inside austenite at the interface of ferrite/austenite, etc.

On the bainitic transformations in uranium carbides

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1973
Abstract In view of the high-temperature solid solution that exists from the approximate composition UC to the approximate composition UC2, a new nomenclature is suggested for the carbide phases of uranium. As far as the uranium atoms are concerned, there are very close relationships between these phases and models are examined for the ‘military ...

The bainite transformation in a silicon steel

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1979
An experimental silicon steel has been used in a detailed kinetic and structural study of the bainite transformation in an attempt to resolve some of the controversies concerning the reaction mechanism. Distinct reaction ‘C’ curves and transformation mechanisms were observed for the upper and lower bainite reactions. The observed set of three minima in

Autocatalysis in bainite transformations

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2000
The objective of the study is to provide a better account of the autocatalysis phenomenon in bainite transformation in steels. The phenomenon of autocatalysis is related to the nucleation of ferrite subunits at the surfaces of bainite sheaves during transformation. The analytical forms of the effective nucleation rate are derived based on two different

Bainitic Transformations in Titanium Alloys

Physics of Metals and Metallography, 2021
A large number of factors have an effect on the features and conditions of bainitic (intermediate) transformations in titanium alloys, namely: the type of phase diagram, the position of the eutectoid temperature, the eutectoid composition, the temperature of the start of martensitic transformation, and the rate of diffusion processes.

Bainite transformation in deformed austenite

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1976
In this work the effect of deformation of metastable austenite on its subsequent isothermal decomposition in bainite regions was investigated in three chromium steels with varying carbon contents. Four different types of treatments were used and the effect of carbon content was studied.

The bainite transformation

2004
«The mechanism of bainite formation has been the subject of numerous original research papers and reviews for almost a century hut without any signs of controversies being resol ved. For beginners and even for experts in related fields this wealth of information has been very confusing...» M Hillert in Preface to the Viewpoint Set on: Bainite“[Hil02 ...
