Many common logic circuits such as adders, parity checkers and multiplexers realise Boolean functions that are true for exactly half their input combinations, and false for the other half; we refer to such functions as balanced. Recently, these functions have been shown to be very useful for testing logic circuits, and for data encryption in ...

The balance function is based on the principle that charge is locally conserved when particles are pair produced. Balance functions have been measured for all charged pairs, identified pion pairs, and identified charged kaon pairs in Au+Au collisions at GeV and p+p collisions at GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider using STAR.

Some Results on Difference Balanced Functions
2015For a difference balanced function \(f\) from \({\mathbb F}_{q^n}^*\) to \({\mathbb F}_q\), the set \(D := \{ (x, f(x)) : x \in {\mathbb F}_{q^n}^* \}\) is a generalized difference set with respect to two exceptional subgroups \(({\mathbb F}_{q^n}^*, \cdot )\) and \(({\mathbb F}_q, +)\).
