Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

On Nearly Balanced Designs for Sensory Trials [PDF]

open access: yes
In sensory experiments, often designs are used that are balanced for carryover effects. It is hoped that this controls for possible carryover effects, like, e.g., a lingering taste of the products. Proper randomization is essential to guarantee the usual

Robustness of Balanced Incomplete Block Designs

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1976
When a variety is lost or omitted from a balanced incomplete block design, the residual design is not, in general, balanced. A lower bound is obtained for the overall efficiency in this case and it is shown that the overall loss of efficiency even in the unbalanced case is small.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Quasi-symmetric balanced incomplete block designs

open access: yes, 1968
A balanced incomplete block design (v, b, r, k, λ) is called quasi-symmetric if each block intersects one other block in x varieties and the remaining b−2 blocks in y varieties each.

A best-worst scaling survey of medical students’ perspective on implementing shared decision-making in China

open access: yesBMC Medical Education, 2020
Background The objective of this study was to ascertain the importance rankings of factors affecting the implementation of shared decision-making (SDM) in medical students in China and determine whether these factors were consistent across the ...

On inequivalent balanced incomplete block designs, I

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, 1969
AbstractThe existence of at least two inequivalent balanced incomplete block designs is established for certain designs with λ=1 and block size m+1 where m is a prime power. An asymptotic result for the number of inequivalent solutions of such designs is also proved.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Partially Balanced Incomplete Block Designs from Weakly Divisible Nearrings

open access: yes, 2005
In [[6] Riv. Mat. Univ. Parma 11 (2) (1970) 79–96] Ferrero demonstrates a connection between a restricted class of planar nearrings and balanced incomplete block designs.

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...
