Balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO) is a chronic dermatitis of unknown etiology most often involving the glans and prepuce but sometimes extending into the urethra. We report our 10-year experience with BXO in pediatric patients. Our pathology database was queried for all tissue diagnoses of BXO from 1992 to 2002.

Balanitis xerotica obliterans – a review

World Journal of Urology, 2000
Balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO) is a scarcely known disease, wrongly considered rare. With a high degree of suspicion and histologic examination, the condition will prove to be much more frequent than one generally believes. The etiology of the condition is unknown at present. Many cases of BXO occurring after circumcision may be cases of secondary

Surgical Treatment of Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1984
Balanitis xerotica obliterans, or kraurosis penis, is a chronic progressive scleroatrophic process of the penis, prepuce, and urethral meatus. BALANITIS XEROTICA OBLITERANS

The ages of these patients ranged from 8 to 25 years with BXO developing from 1 to 16 years postoperatively. Six patients were treated by excision of the BXO tissue and two-stage urethroplasties

Balanitis xerotica obliterans involving anterior urethra

Urology, 1979
Balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO) is known to affect the urethral meatus, glans, and prepuce. We describe a case of biopsy-proved BXO that involves not only the usual areas but the anterior urethra as well. Of added interest is the subsequent development of squamous cell carcinoma in the fossa navicularis. The literature is reviewed.

Penile carcinoma arising in balanitis xerotica obliterans

International Journal of STD & AIDS, 2006
Squamous cell carcinoma of the penis is an uncommon cancer, though in one study it accounted for 90% of all penile cancers. Its association with balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO) is a rare though recognized occurrence. We describe a case of a 46-year-old Caucasian male who first presented to our open-access clinic with a mild phimosis.
