A ball-joint manipulator for microelectrode recording

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1981
The conventional technique for single unit recording involves insertion of microelectrodes into the brain along an axis which is perpendicular to the cross-sectional plan of a recording chamber. Thus, only tissue that lies within the projection of the recording chamber can be reached. This limitation is overcome by use of a ball-joint manipulator which

Accelerations in the Ball Joint

Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines, 2013
A procedure for calculating relative accelerations in spatial mechanisms is extended to include ball joints. The relationship of the relative velocities in a closed-loop mechanism is differentiated and then manipulated into set of simultaneous linear equations in the unknown relative accelerations.

Direct Field-Feedback Control of a Ball-Joint-Like Permanent-Magnet Spherical Motor

IEEE/ASME transactions on mechatronics, 2014
This paper presents an alternative method utilizing real-time measurements of existing rotor magnetic field in the feedback loop for multi degree-of-freedom (DOF) orientation control of a permanent-magnet spherical motor (PMSM) characterized with ...

Caulking and Gap Analysis for a Ball Joint

Transactions of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers A, 2011
Ball joint is a rotating and swiveling element that is typically the interface between two parts. In an automobile, the ball joint is the component that connects the control arms to the steering knuckles by playing a role of bearing. The ball joint can also be installed in linkage systems for motion control applications.

Theoretical model of ball joint squeak

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2011
Abstract The theoretical model for the ball joint squeak problem is proposed. The ball joint is modeled as a sphere attached to a rotating flexible beam and it is in contact with a semi-spherical rigid socket. The relative rotation and vibration between the ball and socket produces friction stresses causing the dynamic instability of the system.

BALL JOINT

2011
The invention relates to a ball joint (10), comprising a joint housing (12), a bearing shell (14) received in the joint housing (12) and a ball pin (16) having a ball head (18) that is pivotably arranged in the bearing shell (14). The ball head (18) is substantially preloaded in the direction of a longitudinal axis (A) of the ball pin (16) by means of ...

Failure of Ball Joints

2019
Abstract Ball joints made from carburized En 353 (BS970:815A16) steel failed after several hours of being fitted into vehicles. The parts were forged, machined, and thread rolled. The threads were copper plated to prevent carburization. The heat treatment consisted of carburizing in a cyanide bath for 12 hours at 930 deg C.
