The Controllable Ball Joint Mechanism

open access: yesJSME International Journal Series C, 2006
A controllable ball joint mechanism with three rotational degrees of freedom is proposed in this paper. The mechanism is composed of three bevel gears, one of which rotates with respect to a fixed frame and the others rotate with respect to individual floating frames.

Design of a Semi-Robotic Knee Arthroscopy Support System Utilizing a Novel Ball Joint Braking Mechanism

open access: yesMachines
To alleviate the poor ergonomics which surgeons suffer during knee arthroscopy, a semi-robotic device with a novel ball joint braking mechanism was designed for intra-operative assistance. A slit ball joint assembly was developed to transmit the clamping

Comparison of Biomechanical Factors among Straight, Curve and Knuckle Kicking Motions in Soccer

open access: yesProceedings, 2020
The rotation of a soccer ball is affected by several factors, such as impact point and foot posture, which are generated by joint torque in the lower limb.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Optimizing simulation for lower limb motion during throwing in water polo

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2015
The objective of this study was to clarify the optimized lower limb motion during throwing in water polo by the simulation. The flexion/extension angles of the hip joint around the ball release were optimized in order to maximize the ball velocity, which
