Ball and socket interaction between monomers at TvTIM1.

open access: yes, 2015
(A) Crystal structure of TvTIM1 showing the ball and socket interplay. Hydrophobic TvTIM1 residues (ball-stick representation) form a socket that interacts with residue Ile45 of the neighboring subunit (space-filling representation).

Wear Resistance and Long-Term Retention of Novaloc Versus Traditional Ball And Socket Implant Attachments Retaining Mandibular Complete Overdenture (In Vitro Study)

open access: yes, 2022
ABSTRACT This study compares the wear changes and retention between two stud attachments “Ball” and “Novaloc” used for implanted supported mandibular overdenture. Two epoxy resin models represented completely edentulous patients were duplicated from an educational cast and prepared to receive two implant analogues in the canine area.

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

Ethical Foreground and Background in Adult Educator Work

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adult educators work in a complex ethical environment. The very act of contributing to the learning of another is fraught with moral overtones. In this paper we consider the ethical dimensions of adult educator practice by distinguishing the ethical features of the context or ‘background’ of practice from the ethical capabilities and decision ...

Peripheral Neutrophil Activation and Extracellular Trap Formation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Markers of neutrophil activation are increased in plasma during ALS, and markers of NET formation associate with ALS survival. ABSTRACT Objectives Peripheral neutrophil levels in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) inversely correlate with survival, suggesting a role for neutrophils in disease progression.

Re‐Purposing Sapropterin (Kuvan) for ACTA2‐Related Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome: A Translational Mechanistic and First‐In‐Human Therapeutic Report

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Multisystemic smooth muscle dysfunction syndrome (MSMDS) is an ultra‐rare, ACTA2‐related disorder characterized by severe cerebrovascular disease, aortic aneurysms, and smooth muscle dysfunction. Using molecular dynamics simulations and in silico drug screening, we identified that sapropterin dihydrochloride (Kuvan) is a candidate capable of ...
