Ball-bearing motors

IEE Proceedings A Science, Measurement and Technology, 1993
Two different ball-bearing motors have been investigated. The experimental results do not agree with the prevailing electromagnetic theories of ball-bearing motor operation. The results suggest that the driving force arises from an electromagnetic interaction between the ball race and the surface of the ball in the region of their contact point.

Misaligned ball bearings

Wear, 1970
Abstract Misalignment of rolling bearings is a form of abuse which can produce adverse conditions and shorten bearing life. The basic aspects and causes of misalignment are considered along with its effects and diagnosis. Guide lines are given to assist minimising the problems that occur.

Ball-Bearing Slides

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1948
Abstract From personal experience the author gives examples of progress made in reducing friction in sliding movements to a minimum, with the addition of preloading of the slide mechanism, so that higher operating speeds, greater precision of product, and longer life at lower cost are possible.

Ball bearing motors

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1997
We discuss and clarify a number of very serious mistakes and misunderstandings concerning the mechanism of the ball bearing motor. Specifically we show that Gruenberg's mechanism, which is equivalent to the phenomenological model of Watson, Williams, and Crimp (1993), does not explain the ball bearing motor behavior at all, because the predicted total ...
