Ballistic Impact Facility - Considerations and Experiences

2007
A facility for testing of ballistic impact has been designed and developed. The goal was to develop a facility which was relatively easy to use and modify, as the requirements for the testing equipment changed with different research projects, e.g. students projects [1].

Ballistics of Transversely Impacted Fibers

Textile Research Journal, 1977
The rate-independent theory of transverse impact of textile fibers is reviewed and cast in a form that provides convenient preliminary guidance to designers of impact-resistant textile structures. It is shown that energy-absorption rate increases monotonically with fiber modulus, but that decreased ductility at high modulus may result in an optimum ...

Chain composites under ballistic impact conditions

International Journal of Impact Engineering, 2000
An existing family of composites of steel chains in resin matrices that exhibit delocalized failure and high levels of energy absorption under static tensile loading has been tested under high-velocity impact conditions. Panels of chain composites were shot with anti-personnel rounds in an instrumented test range.

Ballistic Impact Response of Composite Systems

Materials, Nondestructive Evaluation, and Pressure Vessels and Piping, 2006
Composite materials are widely used in many engineering applications and are an attractive for armor design because of their increased high toughness, impact resistance, stiffness, and strength-to-weight ratios and the ability to tailor their designs to applications.

Ballistic impact efficiency of polymer composites

Composite Structures, 2003
The use of polymer-based composite materials in the aircraft and automotive industries has been rapidly increasing. In this paper the impact efficiency of some polymer-based composites is experimentally studied. This involved the manufacture of a quantity of thermosetting resin composite specimens using the hand lay-up process.

ADVANCED COMPUTATIONS FOR BALLISTIC IMPACT PROBLEMS

Transformational Science and Technology for the Current and Future Force, 2006
Abstract : This article addresses some issues and solutions for ballistic impact computations. A discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of existing computational techniques is presented, and this is followed by a description of a new computational technique that is well suited for ballistic impact computations.
