Numerical analysis of ballistic impact performance of two ceramic-based armor structures

open access: yesComposites Part C: Open Access, 2020
This paper investigates ballistic performance of two different ceramic-based armor designs using finite element analysis. The first design is a bi-layer armor consists of a ceramic front layer and a Kevlar-29 composite backing layer.

Ballistic transport for limit-periodic Schrödinger operators in one dimension

open access: yesJournal of Spectral Theory, 2023
In this paper, we consider the transport properties of the class of limit-periodic continuum Schrödinger operators whose potentials are approximated exponentially quickly by a sequence of periodic functions. For such an operator H , and

Adaptive Control of Run‐and‐Tumble Escape in Pursuit‐Evasion Dynamics of Intelligent Active Particles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The pursuit‐evasion game is studied for two adversarial active agents, modeled as deterministic self‐steering pursuer and stochastic, cognitive evader. For a successful evasion strategy, the motile target has to exploit all available pursuer information, e.g., by tuning the tumbling frequency with the pursuer distance.

Ballistic Phase of Self-Interacting Random Walks

open access: yes, 2008
We explain a unified approach to a study of ballistic phase for a large family of self-interacting random walks with a drift and self-interacting polymers with an external stretching force.

The Progress of Orbitronics: The Enhancement of Orbital Torque Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
Orbit‐torque (OT) devices attract significant attention for their low‐power consumption and high stability in applications. This review systematically outlines strategies for enhancing OT efficiency. We categorize approaches into boosting orbital currents/torques and improving the orbital‐to‐spin conversion coefficient.

Self-Aligned Ballistic Molecular Transistors and Electrically Parallel Nanotube Arrays

open access: yes, 2004
Carbon nanotube field-effect transistors with structures and properties near the scaling limit with short (down to 50 nm) channels, self aligned geometries, palladium electrodes with low contact resistance and high-k dielectric gate insulators are ...

Beyond mammals: the evolution of chewing and other forms of oropharyngeal food processing in vertebrates

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Oropharyngeal food processing exhibits a remarkable diversity among vertebrates, reflecting the evolution of specialised ‘processing centres’ associated with the mandibular, hyoid, and branchial arches. Although studies have detailed various food‐processing strategies and mechanisms across vertebrates, a coherent and comprehensive terminology ...

Maximizing Neurovascular Outcomes of Facial Transplantation: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Facial transplantation is a division of reconstructive surgery which aims to improve the function and appearance of a face that has endured severe disfigurement. Currently, the face transplant procedure uses allogenic tissue, harvested from a brain‐dead donor, to replace damaged facial components.

Thermal conductance of graphene and dimerite

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate the phonon thermal conductance of graphene regarding the graphene sheet as the large-width limit of graphene strips in the ballistic limit.
