Experimental and Modeling Investigation of Seawater Hydrolysis Effects on Aramid Fiber Rupture Behavior

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Hydrolytic aging in seawater produces markedly different mechanical responses among commercial Aramid fibers. While some fibers exhibit progressive degradation, others maintain stable or even improved tensile behavior. Experimental yarn‐scale testing combined with mathematical degradation modeling and Arrhenius‐based lifetime prediction provides new ...

Ballistic performance evaluation of woven fabrics based on experimental and numerical approaches

open access: yes, 2016
Woven fabrics made by high performance fibrous materials play dominant role in ballistic armour applications. This chapter will introduce body armour materials developed over the years, ballistic impact mechanisms and factors affecting ballistic ...

Modeling prestressed ceramic and its effect on ballistic performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This article presents computed results for the responses of ceramic targets, with and without prestress, subjected to projectile impact. Also presented is a computational technique to include prestress.

Synthesis and Characterization of an Azido Nitrofurazanyl Ether: An Energy‐Rich Heterocyclic Plasticizer With a Low Glass Transition Temperature

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We report on the synthesis and characterization of 3‐(2‐(2‐azidoethoxy)ethoxy)‐4‐nitro‐1,2,5‐oxadiazole (NFPEG2N3), which is a liquid nitrofurazanyl ether that was designed to be an energy‐rich plasticizer for glycidyl azide polymer (GAP)‐ and nitrocellulose (NC)‐based formulations.

Effect of Clamping Rigidity of the Armour on Ballistic Performance

open access: yes, 2013
Influence of the manner in which the armour plates are held during their ballistic testing on the armour performance, has been evaluated. One armour plate was clamped rigidly to the test stand while a second plate of identical composition, hardness ...

Tuning the Morphology of Self‐Assembled Nanopatterns on MgO(001) Surfaces by Sequential Broad‐Beam Ion Irradiation

open access: yesphysica status solidi (RRL) – Rapid Research Letters, EarlyView.
A two‐step approach based on broad‐beam ion irradiation is demonstrated to produce fine‐tuned self‐assembled surface patterns on MgO(001). It shows an efficient route to modifying the crystalline MgO(001) surface topography in a controlled way, making use of its very specific behavior in terms of both the pattern morphology and patterning dynamics.

From Flybys to Sample Return: A Review of Space Probes and Robotic Sampling Technologies for Small Bodies

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As a crucial puzzle piece of deep space exploration, exploring small bodies can provide significant scientific insights and valuable mineral resources. Unlike missions to the Moon and Mars, small‐body missions pose distinct technical challenges, including communication delays, weak gravity, and uncertain environments. This paper reviews a full
